Film producer tries to block Warner's Midway purchase

 
Claims he made MK what it is... Mortal Kombat film producer Lawrence Kasanoff, of Threshold Entertainment, has launched a new court bid to block the sale of Midway to Warner Bros. The producer's move comes in a bid to protect IP rights held in relation to Mortal Kombat's characters, as well as film and TV rights. The movie man claims to have made the series what it is via his innovative spin-off creations, and says the game's characters are now famous thanks to his undertakings. "The Mortal Kombat series, as it stands today, is far more a creation of Threshold and Kasanoff than of Midway. Midway's creative input was almost entirely limited to the videogames," reads the filing. "On their own, the videogames provided only minimal back-story and mythology, and only flat, 'stock' characters... Kasanoff and Threshold were responsible for virtually all of the creative input that went into turning the videogame concept into a multimedia enterprise."
