Great horror and Saw aren't exactly synonymous these days, not with the series already on its way to a sixth entry in as many years. Nevertheless, according to Variety's Cut Scene blog, Konami has high hopes for the upcoming video game adaptation, the rights for which they recently acquired from Lionsgate.
"Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with Silent Hill ," said Konami director of marketing David Daniels. " Saw has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 16 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history."
Konami picked up the rights to saw after publisher Brash Entertainment went bankrupt last fall. At the moment, Zombie Studios is handling development, while Konami is set to publish.
