Nerd Hip Hop is Taking Over; Capcom Loves It

Wired posted an interview today with Arizona rapper Random, who in 2007 released an album called Mega Ran, birthed out of his undying love of all things Mega Man. Random's rhymes are laid over beats featuring the classic Mega Man music, and they are awesome. Random, real name Raheem Jarboe, is a teacher when he's not rapping about the characters of Mega Man, and is a firm believer in the redefinition of hip hop. "Hip-hop has been built on false images for so long. Nerd is the new cool." As a gamer and all around nerd, these are words to live by. If you check out Wired's interview here, you can listen to a sample of Random's Mega Ran 9 album, which was actually funded by Capcom themselves. Initially fearing a lawsuit, Capcom fully embraced Random's work and invited him to be present at their booth at Comic-Con, as well as fronting the cash for the follow up.
