Nintendo pulled a pleasant surprise out of its hat at E3 with New Super Mario Bros. , which brings the plumbers into the realm of multiplayer for the first time. Nintendo is billing New Super Mario Bros. has both a competitive and cooperative experience, but it doesn't come down to picking one mode or the other.
"The game does have cooperative and competitive elements; it sort of depends on the crowd that you're playing with and how advanced they are and how they want to approach it," explained Nintendo spokesperson Kit Ellis."If you want to work together, it works that way; there's some stuff that's out of the way that you need to jump off each other's heads or work together to get to, but if you want top lay it competitively, you certainly can. There's a few different ways you can take it, depending on how you want to go."
