It hosted launch parties for the PlayStation 2, PSP, and PlayStation 3, but come summer, Sony's iconic PlayStation Store in San Francisco's Metreon shopping center will be no more. Speaking to GameSpot, a Sony representative confirmed that Sony plans to let their lease for the store expire in the summer, ending the only store Sony has in the world that's exclusively focused on their PlayStation brand.
"Our lease with the Metreon for the PlayStation Store will expire this summer and we have chosen not to renew it," the representative said. "While we are always looking at new avenues for additional retail exposure and space, we felt it best not to continue with a dedicated PlayStation Store at the Metreon at this time."
Sony will also choose not to renew their lease on their Sony Style store in the Metreon as well (it expires March 31), although they'll still have a number of other Sony Style stores in various shopping ...
