Edge reports that Sony has restructured its departments and shuffled management, in an effort to recover from recent financial losses . CEO Howard Stringer will be the company president, while current president Ryoji Chubachi will become vice chairman. Kaz Hirai will be pulling double-duty, managing both the PlayStation and Vaio brands. Hiroshi Yoshioka will oversee Sony's televisions, digital cameras, and camcorders.
The consolidation is expected to be used to leverage Sony's brands in conjunction with each other. The electronics giant has always had a vast array of products, but segmented departments were likely the cause of red tape and delays when it came time to combine them. "The changes we're announcing today will accelerate the transformation of the company that began four years ago," said Stringer.
