Games are serious business in South Korea. Serious enough that President Lee Myung-back felt compelled to comment on Nintendo. And not in the 'won't you please think of the children' sort of way.
Instead, according to GamePolitics , Myung-bak wondered aloud why his nation can't develop something to compete with the likes of the Nintendo, which has of course returned to being a worldwide senstation since releasing the Wii.
GamePark executive Park San-hoon responded by saying that the open-source model is a better bet than consoles for the short term, and that, "It would be great if the software industry here was healthy enough to produce a lot of games, which would drive up the sales of handheld consoles and introduce more products onto the market. However, as a latecomer, we have the difficulty of proving our products first and securing third parties later."
