Stardock has never been one to run with the crowd when it comes to digital rights management, even going so far as to issue a "Gamer's Bill of Rights" that shunned DRM as we know it now. Now they are trying to take a novel approach to the problem of protecting publishers from piracy, one that they hope will solve many of the problems associated with DRM.
Called Game Object Obfuscation, or simply "Goo," the new technology attaches a game to a user rather than a particular piece of hardware. It accomplishes this by asking for the game's serial number as well as their email address. Once that's done, the system never needs to connect to the Internet again.
The new technology comes following the heavy criticism heaped on games like Spore , which can only be authenticated on up to five computers.
