Wii Video Channel Launches May 1 in Japan

Soon Japanese Wii owners will be able to watch streaming video on their home consoles. Kotaku reports that the "Wii no Ma" (Wii Room) Channel is set to launch May 1. As previously reported , the new channel involves a partnership with Dentsu Inc. to produce original, family-friendly video content for the system. The channel customizes the living room for up to 8 Miis. It asks for personal information, including birth year and even blood type. The system recommends shows you may like, and users can rate the shows. It also supports the DSi, since videos can be downloaded to the device and order coupons from Nintendo's advertising sponsors. The channel has brought out some scared reactions from traditional TV providers in Japan.
