When one creates an Avatar for their Xbox 360, they might wonder what it can do. But as revealed by the UK's Official Xbox Magazine, what it can't do may be the more interesting tale, as Microsoft has issued a set of guidelines for Xbox LIVE Indie Games creators to abide by, should they opt to include Avatars.
Among other things which the Avatars are not allowed to do are act on their own (aside from idle animations and such); partake in particularly graphic violence, such as mutilation, maiming, dismemberment, etc.; excrete bodily fluids or substances; be vulgar or profane; use controlled substances, or have their features replaced.
You can find a full list of the guidelines here. It seems that to some extent, Microsoft is following a similar set of guidelines as Nintendo has with their Miis, though I'm not sure theirs have ever been publicized.
