Supreme Commander 2 Moves Out in March

Square Enix hasn't been known for advancements in the real-time strategy genre...or Western-developed games at all for that matter. However, that will change in March 2010, which has been announced as the official release date for Supreme Commander 2, the sequel to 2007's acclaimed RTS by Gas Powered Games. Oh yeah, and there's a new making-of video too!

While we're excited to finally see the game released, I gotta wonder what Square Enix is thinking put it up against of their hugely-anticipated games, which is Finally coming out the same month.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Supreme Commander 2

If you believe that the original Super Mario Kart is still the best, then you're in luck. The classic racer will be available on Virtual Console next week, along with two other highly-requested games.

GameSpot is reporting that Super Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. and Pilotwings are all on their way to the service, which should be welcome news for fans who have been waiting for the games since launch. They will all be available for 800 Wii Points ($8).

All three games are regarded as classics, with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. having kicked off two of Nintendo's top franchises. Pilotwings, meanwhile, was a Super Nintendo launch title that served as a showpiece for the system's Mode-7 graphics.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Mario, Nintendo, Wii, SNES

Mass: We Pray a Dante's Inferno Marketing Stunt

Last week's satirical advertisement for Mass: We Pray, which featured cross-shaped motion controllers and gameplay modes like 'baptism' and 'ring the tower bell', has turned out to be another bit of sneaky marketing for EA's upcoming Dante's Inferno.

All of the game's marketing efforts have tied into the seven deadly sins. Back at E3, EA held a contest asking attendees to take pictures with booth-babes, which tied in with 'Lust'. EA also sent out checks to media outlets as a tie-in with 'Greed'. Apparently the Mass: We Pray advertisement ties in with 'Heresy'.

Seeing these marketing stunts fall flat, I wonder if the controversy EA is trying to raise is doing the game any good.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Electronic Arts, Dante's Inferno, E3

If you were hoping to play games using Android, you may have to start looking into alternatives. Reuters is reporting that Gameloft has "significantly" cut back on its investment in Android games, and that it's not alone.

"We have significantly cut our investment in Android platform, just like ... many others," Gameloft finance director Alexandre de Rochefort said at an investor conference.

Criticizing the Android application store, Rochefort said, "It is not as neatly done as on the iPhone. Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming

Ubisoft is the nominal publisher for No More Heroes , but that won't be the case for the upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports. The publisher told G4 that they've decided to pass on a North American release for the game.

In a brief statement, a company representative said, "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions."

No reason was given for their decision. It's still possible that No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise will make it to North America, but it'll be through a different publisher. One possibility is Capcom, which published Grasshopper's Killer 7 back in 2005. Otherwise, there's the usual suspects such as Atlus.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Ubisoft, No More Heroes, Xbox 360, PS3, Paradise

God of War Collection: A Video Comparison

God of War Collection dropped this week, and many PS3 owners want to know if it’s worth the plunge. This new compilation features newly remastered versions of the PS2 classics on one Blu-ray, alongside with a voucher to download the God of War III demo from the PlayStation Store. We're not planning to run a review of GoW Collection , but that doesn't mean that we haven't taken the time to set up some comparison videos detailing the visual differences between both games running on a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3 versus the newly redone game. Whether it’s Kratos jamming a Kraken head through a ship mast or climbing into the animated Colossus of Rhodes statue to dismantle it from within, I think the videos speak for ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, God of War, PS3

Original Super Nintendo kart racer arrives this Monday; Pilotwings SNES and Super Smash Bros. N64 to follow this holiday season.
Since the day the Wii launched, Nintendo's Virtual Console library of games has offered some of the company's all-time classics in downloadable form. Several of the service's more notable omissions will be addressed this holiday season, as Nintendo told GameSpot a trio of fondly remembered titles will soon arrive on the Wii Shop Channel.

The original Super Mario Kart will give gamers a chance to re-examine the series' roots.
Starting this Monday, the original Super Nintendo version of Super Mario Kart will be available as a Virtual Console title.
PlayStation 3 | PSN to be basis of Sony iTunes rival, accounts top 33 million

PS3 and PSP's online component will form backbone of Sony Online Service, a content-delivery system common to HDTVs, Blu-ray players, PCs, MP3 players, e-readers, and mobile devices.
In addition to confirming 3D gaming for the PlayStation 3 was coming in 2010 , yesterday's Sony Corp. global strategy presentation also revealed that a premium subscription service will be added to the PlayStation Network . Those two initiatives were revealed as part of a far larger vision which will see Sony try and overtake rival Apple's iTunes service with a common content distribution system for all its media products.

Sony aims to bring together all its products via one common online platform.

Temporarily named the Sony Online Service (SOS), the ambitious initiative aims to offer a single user experience across all its network media devices, from portable media players to large-screen Bravia HDTVs.
Reply to All: Sequels, Solicited Career Advice, and Sequels 2

On this week's episode of Modern Family -- the best new comedy of the year, by the way -- the lovable but clueless Phil laments his wife's inability to give good gifts. After running down a long list of desired items (one of which being a yogurt maker, which is totally practical), he declares "I can't not think of things I want."

We're now in that time of the year where it's easy to find ourselves falling into that mentality. Most of the year's major games have been released, and with all the enthusiastic coverage and discussion surrounding them, it's easy to get game envy. And while it's bordering on trite to say "be thankful for what you have," try not to get caught up in what you don't have. Next week, we're going to be putting up an article or two in the Thanksgiving spirit -- some touchy-feely junk about appreciation and family and sharing things about gaming, because we often forget how important that stuff is.

As my friend Shane Bettenhausen used to say on our ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming

PC | Modern Warfare 2 PC first-week sales top predecessor

Outcry over removal of dedicated server support can't stop latest Call of Duty installment from a faster start than original Modern Warfare.
Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 faced its share of pre-launch controversy. Above and beyond a contentious level in the game's campaign mode, many PC players were particularly peeved with the game's lack of dedicated server support .

PC gamers who had been vocal about a Modern Warfare 2 boycott went into stealth mode when it came time to pick it up.
While boycotts were threatened and more than 220,000 gamers signed a petition asking developer Infinity Ward to reconsider dedicated servers , sales of the PC edition of the game don't appear to have been affected greatly. In a post on the developer's official forums , community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling revealed that, "The PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PC, Modern Warfare 2, Activision

Week-Ending Game Endings - 11.20.09 - Resident Evil 2

I hope this doesn't count as spoilers.

This week, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles came out for the Wii, and I figured a good way of marking the occasion would be to post the ending of one of the games from which it draws, Resident Evil 2.

But, it occurs to me that some peoples' first experience with the story of the game might be through Darkside. So if you're such a person and don't want the RE2 sequence spoiled, then I wouldn't watch these.

On the other hand, if you know it or just don't care, go right ahead. In the case of the former, it might even be fun to compare. First up, we join Claire Redfield...

My Games This Weekend - 11.20.09 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii and WWE

This weekend, it's more New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The wife and I have already stepped into the dark land of World 8, and will soon make Bowser eat his own shell. So far, the game really hasn't been all that difficult, even with two of us getting in the way of one-another. Nonetheless, it's been quite a fun ride, and I can't wait to go back and start exploring for secrets, Star Coins, and such.

I'm also aiming to get WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 for the Wii underway, so keep an eye out for that review soon. In the meantime, I've got the DS version in progress, so hopefully that will show up sometime early next week.

In addition, WWE Survivor Series is this Sunday, and I'll likely have Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, aka "the best game in the series" with me. Funny that in one game, I have to ensure Bowser's survival, while in the other, he's soon going to wish he was never born. Such is life.

So, those are my games this weekend, what are yours?

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Bowser, Wii, DS, WWE Survivor Series

As with our previous look at The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, if you're not particularly interested in reading some slight spoilers on Link's latest adventure in Hyrule, then you're probably better off skipping this update. We're jumping into some of the plot and gameplay details that occur after completing the first dungeon, as well as taking a look at some of the puzzles that await. With that out of the way, we'll continue with Link as he completes the Forest Temple dungeon and makes his way back to the Sprit Temple on his train.

NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits - Wii - GR Review

Gliding over places that no other goddess have glided over before. Mostly, anyway.

'Quality' and 'Wiiware' are two words hard to come by in a single sentence this day and age. Every week, we get a slew of titles for Nintendo's Wii downloadable service, but it normally comes as a surprise when a game is actually as good as NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits , from Spanish developer Over The Top Games.

[image1] NyxQuest tells the story of Nyx (duh), a goddess from Olympus that befriends Greek mythological icon Icarus. One day, Icarus goes missing, plummeting to the earth, and it's Nyx's mission to come to the rescue, flying, jumping, and pushing her way through twelve interconnected side-scrolling levels.

The first thing that will strike you when you boot up NyxQuest is how gorgeous it looks. Levels are basically huge panoramic combinations of drawings and 3D objects, which are shaded to look like paintings, and both mesh very well together. Most stages are set in desert-like ruined ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Icarus

Free Need for Speed: Shift DLC Detailed And Dated

Watch Larger Version | Watch HD Version
Need for Speed: Shift fans are in for quite a treat in a few weeks as Electronic Arts will be releasing the first batch of downloadable content for their acclaimed racing title, and best of all, it’s free.
The DLC release introduces an entirely new multiplayer mode called Team Racing, which will pit two teams of six players against each other in a Circus Maximus-style racing battle to the death! (Note: that might be an exaggeration on my part) Also included in the DLC pack will be five new smokin' hot rides:

     1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427
     1967 Shelby GT-500
     1969 Dodge Charger R/T
     1971 Dodge Challenger R/T
     1998 Toyota Supra Mark IV

All of this Shift goodness will available on Dec. 1 for Xbox 360 and Dec. 10 for PlayStation 3.

A lot of console and handheld anniversaries are being observed this year, such as the SEGA Genesis, the Dreamcast, and the Game Boy. But November seems to be the month to remember, as many a memorable platform celebrate can celebrate its launch going into the Winter holidays.

First and foremost, one cannot overlook the platforms of this very generation. Earlier this week, November 17th marked the third anniversary of the PlayStation 3's North American launch, while the Wii celebrated its own third just yesterday, November 19th. And at the start of next week, November 22nd, the Xbox 360 will also be able to celebrate, except this will be its fourth.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360

In case you weren’t aware, Valve’s zombie-fest Left 4 Dead 2 went on sale on Tuesday. But what you may not know is that it wasn’t the only zombie game released this week.
