Just catching up on this from the Thanksgiving break, here's a funny clip in case you missed it: Robin Williams joking on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon about the people he runs into while playing Call of Duty online.

Though he's discussed this in the past, Williams also spoke about how he named his daughter after Princess Zelda. He then joked that he also had a son named Mario.

Call of Duty Classic Coming to XBLA and PSN This Week

The original Call of Duty is set to hit Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this week. Major Nelson confirmed it will hit XBLA this Wednesday for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15). TVGB reports that Activision has confirmed it for PSN as well, coming on Thursday for $14.99. We weren't sure if the marketing partnership with Microsoft might make it hit XBLA first, but that apparently isn't the case.

If you balk at paying the fifteen bucks for an old game, keep in mind that if you picked up the Hardened or Prestige editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , the downloadable title is free. Just check for a download code somewhere among the remains of the box you hastily ripped open after the midnight release.

DS | Call of Duty franchise sales top $3 billion

Modern Warfare 2's $550 million opening helps boost Infinity Ward, Treyarch-developed FPS series' total global sales beyond 55 million units.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 smashed more than just game-industry records upon its launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in November. Generating some $550 million within its first five days on the market , the Infinity Ward-developed first-person shooter sailed past top earners within the film and book industry, giving Activision cause to lay claim to the title of "biggest entertainment launch in history."

Modern Warfare 2's sales likely got a boost on Black Friday.

Activision has now provided some perspective on just how big Call of Duty has become. Over the holiday weekend, the publisher announced that the Call of Duty franchise has pulled in more than $3 billion at retail worldwide, according to industry-tracking groups NPD, Chart-Track, and GfK, as well as Activision's ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty, Activision, Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 2, Treyarch

Activision Announces Call of Duty Sales Surpass $3 Billion Mark

You can bet that Activision is pleased with themselves right now. Very pleased.

Why so pleased? Surely you jest. Just this morning, they announced that the Call of Duty franchise, bolstered significantly by the enormously successful recent launch of Modern Warfare 2, has generated over $3 billion in sales. The franchise has over 55 games to its name, which makes the figure easy enough to believe.

"Call Of Duty has become one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time," said Activision Chief Executive Officer Robert "Bobby" Kotick in a statement. "If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty, Activision, The Mark, Modern Warfare 2, Bobby Kotick

Activision Blizzard said Friday that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 pushed sales of its Call of Duty military shooter franchise past $3 billion and 55 million units worldwide. Activision cited internal sales estimates and third-party figures from tracking firms NPD Group, Chart-Track, and Gfk. Modern Warfare 2, released on November 10 and developed by Activision-owned Infinity Ward, generated around $550 million in its first five days worldwide. The original Call of Duty was developed ...

Modern Warfare 2 DLC Planned for Spring

There's no denying that Modern Warfare 2 is currently the most played online title to date, and it's only a matter of time before gamers demand new content. The sheer install base attached to the game and profit potential is reason enough for Infinity Ward to crank out downloadable content as soon as possible.

According to Robert Bowling, the game's "DLC is planned for the wonderfully vauge timeframe of Spring." So, it looks like we'll need to remain content with the game's current offerings through the winter. Between spec-ops and competitive multiplayer there's plenty to occupy the Call of Duty fanbase until spring.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward, Call of Duty

Analyst Says CoD DLC Could Generate Up to $140M in 2010

We all know the Call of Duty franchise is popular, but just how popular? So popular that its DLC alone could rake in more money than many other games make in their entire retail shelf life. According to Broadpoint AmTech analyst Ben Schachter, downloadable content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could generate up to $140 million for Activision in 2010 ( via IndustryGamers).
"As with the last two CoD titles, the game itself should maintain its $60 launch price until the next iteration (due in large part to the value of its online gameplay)," Schachter said. "But Activision will also benefit significantly from the high-margin DLC potential enabled by the packaged product's success. We estimate that Activision will generate at least $100mil-$140mil in gross revenue from Call of Duty DLC in 2010."
And it may not just be the usual run of additional map packs (which we already know are coming) that'll help fill Activision's ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Activision, Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

McKidd Talks Call of Duty Movie

According to a story in the New York Post, Kevin McKidd, voice actor for Captain "Soap" MacTavish in Modern Warfare 2, has said that the video game franchise may be on its way to the big screen:

"They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he told PopWrap. Asked if he'd reprise his role in the film, McKidd said "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."

Hmm, are we at a point where we can begin to have hope for something like this? Prince of Persia looks like it may be good, but that remains to be seen.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2, Prince of Persia

Soap Voice Actor Hints at Call of Duty Movie

A movie based on Call of Duty may be in the works, according to a story from the New York Post. Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, who voices Soap MacTavish, talked about his part in the game and some upcoming projects. "They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood, they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me," he said. "I had no idea [Modern Warfare] would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film." Asked if he would like to play Soap himself, he joked, "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available, then absolutely."

A Call of Duty movie seems like a no-brainer, seeing as the franchise is one of the most popular and recognized in the world. A movie would probably have to be based on the Modern Warfare series, and mention of Soap means it could include some familiar characters. This is the second voice actor leak in only one week, after the VA for Ghost ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty

Call of Duty Movie Moving Forward?

They say there's no business like show business, but I disagree. Like any other business might, the powers-that-be in Los Angeles seem to have noticed there is a big vidja game out right now called Modern Warfare 2 , and they would like to diversify their investment portfolios into an intellectual property with a built-in fan base and cross-sector identifiability in the 15-34 year old demographic in order to fully leverage merchandising opportunities and bring in a potential windfall profit that ultimately boosts stock prices and contributes to the overall financial health of their parent corporation and its shareholders. In other words: People are talking about a Call of Duty movie. Great.
In an interview with something called PopWrap , Kevin McKidd who plays Captain "Soap" MacTavish in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 , said of playing the role: "They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Review

First-person shooters on Wii are easy to ignore, especially (and ironically) when they're Call of Duty games. Sure, World at War was a well-done port, but the World War II-themed COD games always had spin-offs or ports on the "lesser" systems, so it wasn't a big deal in the long run. Modern Warfare was different, since it was only meant for the "big boy" consoles, with no other versions in sight. And besides, it was about modern warfare , not older conflicts that could be artistically interpreted however many ways. But now, riding in the wake of the Modern Warfare 2 launch, comes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition , the first "non-HD" version of the original Modern Warfare.

Basically, you can take everything from our 2007 review of the original version and apply it to Reflex, and that's pretty dang respectable. The woefully uncredited team at Treyarch deserves some props for faithfully -- not necessarily ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Wii, Call of Duty

Activision Now Has Three Studios Working On Call of Duty Franchise

For the past few years, Treyarch and Infinity Ward have developed alternate iterations in Activision's Call of Duty franchise. But as the Los Angeles Times reports, Activision has now tapped a third studio to work on “future versions” of the series.
The new studio has not been identified yet, and it isn’t known what the future holds for the series in terms of expanding beyond its first-person shooter roots, but a source close to Activision told the LA Times that a Call of Duty MMO was still a possibility. Rumors of this drastic shift for the series date back to last year, so this latest news isn’t terribly surprising.

As for uncovering the mystery studio behind these future Call of Duty games, in due time I guess. Of course, Activision did just unveil its new Sledgehammer Games studio , which was supposedly tasked to work on a new game based on an existing Activision property, so that’s interesting.

Having just cashed in on Modern Warfare 2 , it's fair to say that Activision wouldn't mind seeing even more Call of Duty. So it should come as no surprise that Activision has reportedly handed development duties for the series to a third team.

The LA Times is reporting that the publisher has "aggressive expansion plans" for the series. As a result, it seems that they've brought a third team into the fold, along with Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward have been releasing games on alternating years since 2006, when Call of Duty 3 was released. With Modern Warfare 2 now on the market, Treyarch is now reportedly working on the next game in the series, which is rumored to be set in an era other than World War II.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Activision, Treyarch, Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward

Major publisher Activision has confirmed the founding of Sledgehammer Games in Foster City, CA, headed by former EA/Visceral Games execs Glen Schofield and Michael Condry (Dead Space) and working on an unannounced new title.
Infinity Ward Talks About Relationship with Treyarch

Though Infinity Ward and Treyarch are both behind one of Activision's most prominent franchises, Call of Duty, the two don't seem particularly close, and certainly not like teammates. If anything, they seem more like rivals. Here is what Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling had to say about their relationship during GameTrailers' Bonus Round.

See what was said, after the cut.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Activision, Call of Duty

Xbox Live Arcade Adds Gyromancer and Diner Dash on Wednesday

Two new games are set for release this Wednesday on the Xbox Live Arcade, continuing the trend of releasing more than a single XBLA game each week. (Remember the days when we only got one, if that?) First up is a game that's more likely to appeal to the casual crowd more than the folks who camped out for Call of Duty last week: Diner Dash , the popular time management sim that originally showed up on PCs back in 2003. The XBLA incarnation of the game features a new look, cooperative and competitive online multiplayer, and leaderboards. Two different control styles will be available, with one being the more traditional point-and-click interface, and the other allowing you to directly control the main character, Flo. Diner Dash will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

The other new title this week is the much-anticipated collaboration from Square Enix and PopCap, Gyromancer . D3 Publisher took PopCap's match-3, Bejeweled ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Xbox Live Arcade, PopCap Games, Microsoft, Call of Duty
