Rumor: Leaked Final Fantasy XIII Box Reveals PS3 Details

The above image, purportedly a leaked shot of the back of the Japanese Final Fantasy XIII box for the PlayStation 3, may reveal some details about that version of the game, the Unofficial Final Fantasy Site reports.

Of note, the back of the box says there is no optional nor mandatory installation for the game, and that it will only take up 500kb for save data. It also indicates LPCM 5.1 audio and CGI sequences in full 1080p HD.

"While the game itself does run in 720p," UFFS says, "this means the FMVs on PS3 will be of the highest possible quality. This may be the advantage PS3 will have over Xbox 360, as fitting lossless audio and large FMVs on a DVD will prove difficult."

Of course, this is all unofficial, and remains a rumor for the time being.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PS3, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy, Xbox 360

Square Enix Doing Cinematics For Deus Ex 3

Square Enix has announced that the first collaborative effort between the Final Fantasy publisher and the (fairly) recently purchased Eidos Interactive will in fact be Eidos Montreal’s next installment in the Deus Ex franchise.

As Square Enix general manager Stephane D’Astous told Edge Online , “ Deus Ex 3 is going to be the first project which will be a concrete product of joint effort between Square Enix and Eidos. The cinematics—by which I mean any CGI pre-rendered cinematics — are going to be done in Tokyo by Square Enix, and that's going to be amazing."

D’Astous went on to say that the Square team is especially excited about the project since it will be their “first project…that’s a non-Final Fantasy title – they even want to work on Thief 4 too, so everyone is really excited.”
When I think of Deus Ex cinematics, the first thing that comes to mind if the opening of Deus Ex: Invisible War , because I ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Deus Ex 3, Eidos, Final Fantasy, Deus EX

Hands On: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

The unbearable lightness of Wii-ing. There are certain things you expect from a Final Fantasy game: a reluctant hero with a devil-may-care attitude, a hot feisty love interest, men who look a bit like girls, and a creepy little-sister character you're not sure you're meant to fancy. Something you don't expect in a Final Fantasy game is chasing a ferret through a shopping centre. It's quite near the start of The Crystal Bearers, and the chalky-toothed rodent has stolen our hero Layle's magical gem. He wants it back, for some so-far-unexplained reason. In order to do that, I'll have to train the Wiimote's on-screen pointer over the sexually dimorphic predator long enough to fill a circular bar, and once this is done I can use Layle's telekinesis powers to pick the rodent up. Except he got away again. And now Layle's accidentally picked up an innocent bystander and flung him into a wall, sending coins everywhere. What in the name of Moogles is going on? "We wanted to make a Wii game, ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

FFXIII Gets "T" Rating Long After Nintendo Tried Marketing Original to Adults

Following the announcement of a release date, The Examiner reports that Final Fantasy XIII now has a rating by the ESRB. And that rating is... T for Teen. Like you thought it would be anything else.

The reason for the rating is Violence (natch), Mild Language (yippee), and Suggestive Themes-- hello. Examiner says that "While the rating shouldn't be a shock to anyone, the use of suggestive themes could be. With the game appearing to have a heavy atmosphere of love and caring, two women who link together to form a car, are surely some other sexual like surprises, the suggestive themes are likely to be minor sequences."

On a related note, did you know that Nintendo once tried to market the original NES Final Fantasy toward adults?

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Nintendo, Final Fantasy XIII, NES, Final Fantasy

The most important thing you need to know about Final Fantasy Gaiden: 4 Warriors of Light is that it's not really a Final Fantasy game. Yes, it says "Final Fantasy" right there on the box, but it also says "Gaiden," which means "side story." And believe me, 4 Warriors of Light plays up the side-story angle. The last game to bear the "Final Fantasy Gaiden" moniker in Japan was The Final Fantasy Adventure , and it was basically an attempt to pilfer the design of The Legend of Zelda . Well, the same is true here, except that it's not Zelda this latest side-story is trying to mimic; rather, Square Enix is trying to create another Dragon Quest IX .

It makes sense: DQIX has proven to be a raging success in Japan, with more than four million copies sold since July, while Final Fantasy still performs well... but not as well as it used to. The resulting creation is an odd work, one that doesn't seem to be sitting well with many ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy, The Warriors

Wada Says "Too Much IP Use is Bad, Says Final Fantasy Will Not Become Exhausted

"Too much IP use is not good," said Square Enix President and Chief Executive Officer Yoichi Wada, who spoke on the possibility of the Final Fantasy franchise being in danger of exhaustion at the Montreal International Game Summit. "Having memorable characters and back story is crucial to having a powerful IP," he added.

An interesting statement, to be sure, and it only gets better from there. Wada goes on to explain how they plan to keep the franchise from wearing out its welcome.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy, Square Enix, Will Wright

News: FFXIII's Crystarium system detailed

Plus: big news tomorrow, chocobos, more. Square Enix is planning to make a big Final Fantasy XIII announcement tomorrow at 3.30pm GMT. In the meantime, Famitsu has revealed details of the new character growth system, along with Hope's summon and the way the game uses series mainstay the chocobo. According to the Japanese magazine (partially translated by IGN), FFXIII uses something called the Crystarium system, which the website compares to Final Fantasy X's Sphere system.
Rumor: XIV Content Coming to Final Fantasy XIII?

Those of you dying to get your hands on Square's latest entry in the Final Fantasy franchise may have a few additional surprises in store. According to a scan from Japanese magazine Shonen Jump, the game will include a "campaign code" for Final Fantasy XIV.

While details beyond that are scarce, I wouldn't be all to surprised if this ends up being a beta for the series' next MMO. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer before find out exactly what to expect from this code. I don't know about you, but I could do without the XIV content anyway... just give me FF XIII.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIII Announcement Coming Soon -- Let's Hope For A Release Date

We know when Final Fantasy XIII is arriving in Japan (December 17). Outside of a vague "2010," however, Square Enix hasn't said when the rest of the world (specifically me ) when Final Fantasy XIII is coming. Square Enix teased an anagram on their website over the weekend, though, which Final Fantasy XIII.net hacked away at before coming up with something mighty interesting.
"A Henchmen Inventor Tent Unto" suddenly made sense as "Announcement Nov Thirteenth."
It's speculation on my part, but there's very little Square Enix could surprise us with at this point about Final Fantasy XIII that would warrant a tease -- in English, no less -- other than a solid release date for the game. The only question is...will they make us wait till next fall? Oh, the river of tears.

Gyromancer Coming to XBL and PC Nov. 18

PopCap and Square Enix have announced that Gyromancer , the result of their collaboration to make a game combining Bejeweled Twist and the general experience and level-gaining elements of a Final Fantasy , is set for release on Xbox Live Arcade and PC on November 18 ( via Shacknews).
If "a cross between Bejeweled and Final Fantasy" sounds familiar to you, then you've probably heard of or played Puzzle Quest . PopCap and Square Enix don't really seem to be hiding the fact that Gyromancer will be a direct competitor to the popular puzzle/RPG hybrid, though, so it'll be interesting to see if the higher profile names attached to it help Gyromancer catch up to the surprising success of D3 Publisher's franchise.
If you're interested, the game will run you 1200 Microsoft points or $15 dollars.

Final Fantasy XIII To Include XIV Beta

Leaked scans from this week's issue of Shonen Jump revealed that the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII in Japan will include a beta for XIV. Shonen Jump beat Famitsu to the punch on this and other announcements about the game.

Square Enix seems to be taking advantage of the unusually close releases of two numbered Final Fantasy games – one of them an online title. It is not known if this beta might also apply for Final Fantasy XIII releases outside of Japan.

Also in Shonen Jump were the first images of what full-grown Chocobos will look like in the game. They look, well, like giant yellow birds except now they have big flappy ears hanging downward. The character Hope's summon was also revealed. Called Alexander, all that can be seen from the scans at this point is that it is yellow and very large.

The latest Famitsu revealed that next week's issue will go into these things in more detail.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix, Final Fantasy, Alexander
