Archie's Riverdale is Enough to Send Most Gamers Running

Wow. I don't even really know how else to respond to this, except perhaps with a sigh of relief that consoles and handhelds seem to be safe.

The game is called Archie's Riverdale Run, and seems to be a PC-only affair created by FX Labs out of India. And it... well, just take a look:

The game appears to be GTA Lite... very lite, at that, and exceedingly dull. I get the feeling that Archie's unique sense of humor doesn't translate well in India, because this game seems completely devoid of it.

Perhaps this makes it clear why (as far as I know) there has never been an Archie video game before, and why it should probably stay that way.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, World of Warcraft, PC, Grand Theft Auto

If you happen to be a fan of both video games and Western films, it looks like Rockstar San Diego has a game in the works just for you. Being a Rockstar developed game, one can't help but think of the Grand Theft Auto franchise when hearing about Red Dead Redemption. By the looks of the game's latest trailer, Liberty City has now become the Wild West.

Red Dead Redemption: "My Name is John Marston" Trailer

Upcoming Red Dead Redemption is among the most eagerly awaited console games in existence. The idea of GTA-style, open world game about The Wild West is utterly perfect, and it's from Rockstar -- that should be enough for you, but in case you need further evidence of awesomeosity, click the video below. In it, you'll get a first look at Redemption 's gritty story as well as some hints at protagonist Marston's motivations and some of the characters he'll meet (and hopefully gun down) along the way.

Personally, I am blown away by the Serge Leone, spaghetti Western vibe, and I hope the game lives up to the promises of this video when it comes out in April. What do you think -- is Red Dead going to be a great game or the greatest game?

Review: COP: The Recruit

Not much. "This is essentially not cool." So said my character, Dan Miles, on a case gone wrong. Man. Etc. It has become my refrain for the entire game. But oh, oh but oh, it's a game that's trying so very, very hard to fit in. COP, as its title so excitedly shouts, desperately wants to hang around with GTA. It sees GTA in the playground, watching it scuff its boots against the wall with the other cool kids, staring enviously at the apparent ease with which the rock star game emits its nonchalant air. If COP could just cultivate such an image, surely GTA would accept it, consider it a peer? COP bought clothes that looked like GTA's, kinda, different logos but the same from a distance. It wrote Tippex swear words all over its pencil case just like it had seen GTA do. It tried putting some gel in its hair to get rid of that damned side parting. But GTA still never looks up when COP walks past in the corridor. If you ignore the technical problems that make COP missable, it's this ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Grand Theft Auto, C.O.P.
C.O.P. The Recruit - DS - GR Review

Less entertaining than pepper spray in the eyes.

If you take away everything that makes Grand Theft Auto edgy, exciting, and fun, you get COP: The Recruit . It could have made the third-person action genre viable on the Nintendo DS, but sadly it misses the mark.

[image1]Gamers take up the controls as Dan Miles. A street-thug-turned-greenhorn-cop who recently joined the City Control Division, a high-tech New York city police force, who’s been assigned to stop a terrorist called Bomb Zombie—hardcore name, right?—from blowing up the city. And that’s it for the story—it’s nothing special and there are better and more compelling storylines in old Steven Seagal movies, which is saying a lot.

The story moves forward with the help of cut-scenes that use the in-game engine and animé-esque cartoons. This is an interesting idea, but it’s held back by the game’s blocky and pixel-ly appearance. It is a DS game so the hardware has its ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, C.O.P.
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines Review

There seem to be two typical methods when it comes to adapting a home console series to the handheld: either take things in a different direction ( GTA 's visuals regressed from full 3D snazziness to semi-isometric overhead perspective for GTA: Chinatown Wars ; Resistance became a third-person shooter for Resistance: Retribution ) or, try your damndest at creating a compressed and portable version of the original experience (see God of War: Chains of Olympus or Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny ). Since Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles was a spectacularly terrible attempt at the former, it's actually a bit refreshing that not only is Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines an attempt to make a portable version of the core Assassin's Creed experience, but it's an attempt that works for the most part.

Take what you expect from an Assassin's Creed title, and most of it remains intact for the PSP. Like its home console ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Grand Theft Auto

Rockstar's Dan Houser Talks Video Game Violence Controversy, Being a Pariah, and More GTA

During a recent interview with The Times Online, Rockstar's Dan Houser explained that he thinks video games are finally starting to move away from being a constant source of controversy due to violent content. In addition, he seems to tease the development of the next Grand Theft Auto title.

"[V]ideo games are a popular and easy enemy," he explains. "It's all part and parcel of doing something that's not been done before. One of the things that's always been exciting is the feeling of being in at the birth of a new medium, but of course the history of technology-driven art from the printing press onwards has been of people fighting against that stuff."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Pariah, Grand Theft Auto

Dan Houser (Briefly) Talks About Developing Next Grand Theft Auto

SPOILER ALERT!!! Rockstar Games will soon start developing another Grand Theft Auto game! I know you were (not) worried about Rockstar abandoning its most cherished and profitable franchise, but worry no more.

During an interview with British publication the Times Online , Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser confirmed that his team of mad geniuses will soon start work proper on the next GTA, to absolutely no one’s surprise.

“We’ll think of a city first, then the characters,” Houser said, before explaining that the script for the game will come in at around 1,000 pages.

As for the game’s setting, that will continue to be teased and speculated about for many months to come. The front runner at this point is Vice City, thanks to an ad spotted in the manual for GTA: Episodes from Liberty City , but until we hear something official, refrain from placing any bets.

Grand Theft Auto fans looking for clues on the next game may want to put down their fine tooth combs. It appears that the sequel isn't even in production yet.

Based on a recent interview in The Times , Rockstar is currently focusing on Red Dead Redemption . Grand Theft Auto V will be happening at some point, but it looks as if Rockstar hasn't even come up with a city for the game yet, much less started production.

"We'll think of a city first, then the characters," president Sam Houser said. He added that the script will likely run up to around 1,000 pages.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption

PlayStation Brand Still Continues to Drive Sales of Tekken

Once upon a time, there were many brands which were closely associated with the PlayStation name, such as Grand Theft Auto and Devil May Cry. But as a new generation dawned and the Xbox 360 took a more commanding lead, developers and publishers would decide to hedge their bets and release such titles across both platforms.

In some such cases, the Xbox 360 version of a title has managed to sell in greater numbers, but not in the case of Tekken 6. PS3center.net reports that the PlayStation 3 version of the game has managed to outsell the 360 iteration by a margin of "less than 113K" to "less than 100K."

They also point out that while Tekken 6 had only five days in October to rank on the charts, they sold less than 225K combined and "that's still a lot less than other big name fighting franchises have done, namely Street Fighter IV, which sold over 700K in about 8 days." Speculation suggests that the game's problem with netcode issues could have affected it commercially, despite being received well ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Xbox 360, Tekken, Tekken 6, Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry

In its examination of Take-Two's financial performance, and the impact the Grand Theft Auto episodes have had on the brand's market share, research group DFC Intelligence concludes that the franchise could be even bigger.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Grand Theft Auto, World of Warcraft

Saints Row 2: Ultor Exposed Is The Xbox Deal Of The Week

I debated whether to post the trailer below that announces that Saints Row 2 DLC, " Ultor Exposed" is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week this week. On the one hand, I like the Saints Row series. It's no Grand Theft Auto, but it's worthwhile for a couple hours, and "Ultor Exposed" is 30 percent off the regular price this week -- that's a pretty good deal. But on the other hand, the video is in terrible taste, and really appeals to the lowest desires in gamers and humans in general.
So I'll let you decide. You're an adult, right? If you are an adult, take a look at the video below, starring Tera Patrick, and tell me whether this kind of purely sex-driven advertising is a good or bad way to market games.

Random Video of the Day: Grand Theft Auto vs. Frogger

Here's a surprise: another mashup video from Dane Boe, this time featuring Grand Theft Auto IV and Frogger. I can already see how this wouldn't end well...

Okay, I'll admit: that went the exact opposite of how I expected, which involved Niko attempting to run over Frogger, stopping his car, getting out, and shooting him. And in hindsight, I should have realized that's not how these things work.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Frogger, Grand Theft Auto IV, Vs., Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - PSP - GR Review

Is that a GTA in your pocket?

After trying earlier this year to win over the soccer moms and ballet dads on the DS, Rockstar’s returning to more familiar territory . Seeing Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars come to the PSP after a stint on the DS is like watching a cheerleader dump a comic book geek and get back together with her old football beau. We might have wished that the odd cultural clash would work out, but we also all secretly suspected that it was never meant to be.

[image1]On the PSP, Chinatown Wars looks and feels a lot more like its console brethren. Even though it holds onto most of the mini-game tasks from the DS version, the more traditional controls and screen layout bring the PSP port more in line with the rest of the series. Less a step forward than a horizontal strafe, Chinatown Wars on PSP nimbly fits a large—if predictable—GTA experience into a small package.

The universe of Grand Theft Auto , much like Sesame Street , is a colorful place. ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PSP, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, DS, Grand Theft Auto
