News: Foto Showdown coming to DSi

It's a camera-powered RPG from Konami. Konami has unveiled Foto Showdown, a new RPG which is played using the DSi camera. The idea is you take photos and the DSi uses "advanced colour recognition" to generate monsters from them. You can then test out their unique powers in epic battles. There are more than 100 levels to play through and over 150 monsters to collect. Players can fight with up to six monsters at once and they get more powerful with each battle they win. You can also upgrade their powers, buy better weapons, give them tools and heal them with medicine. The DSi's wireless functionality allows players to take part in multiplayer battles and swap monsters.
Fan Creates NES-Styled Left 4 Dead "De-Make"

In the face of successful oldschool titles and remakes such as Mega Man 9 and Konami's ReBirth series, the developers at Valve have decided to beat these old industry hands at their own game-- by taking their hit franchise Left 4 Dead into the field of 8-bit gaming!

Two players! Up to eight zombies on a map at a time! It's zombie-fighting fun like you've never seen it before, only it's the same as it ever was!

Okay, in actuality, this is a fan-made game by "PixelForce" which is supposed to be available for the PC come January 4th. They plan for the game to have all five maps of all four campaigns included, and you can find out more by checking out the YouTube description.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Left 4 Dead, Mega Man 9, Konami, Valve, PC

Random Video of the Day: Konami Code (Paper Planes Parody)

Black Nerd Comedy has put together a "song parody of Paper Planes by M.I.A. (MIA) about the best cheat in video game history... the Konami Code!"

Konami and Contra fan that I am, you just know I couldn't pass this up:

I hate to pick this apart, but Super C used another code, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II did as well; III's was a slight variation, swapping B and A. And Castlevania III was the only one with such a cheat, and that was used by entering your name as "Help Me."

Still, fun video, and kind of catchy. That it has its own little dance is a plus.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Konami, Contra, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

News: Wii PES 2010 patched on release

Brought up-to-date with real-world data. Konami has alerted us to an upcoming and free bout of DLC for the Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. Simply, the update brings all player stats and data in-line with the real world. So, imagine a crazy universe where Robin Van Persie had been injured during international duty - if that was the case the game would reflect it. You might even find he was out of the Arsenal squad for six weeks! Just imagine. We expect Konami will issue a few of these data refreshers as the season goes on.
Anderson Still Waiting on Castlevania Script, Has Eyes for Metal Gear

It seems as if the Castlevania movie has been spiraling in and out of development hell so much that I can't even remember what the last status update on it was.

But it matters little, for the latest word coming out of ShockTillYouDrop.com is that Resident Evil: Afterlife Producer Jeremy Bolt said "Paul W.S. Anderson is still circling video game adaptation Castlevania at Rogue Pictures and that they are waiting on a script."

If that weren't enough for you, it seems that Bolt and Anderson have their eyes on another Konami property as well: Metal Gear Solid. The duo would apparently like to help Columbia Pictures along with that project.

Mind, this doesn't confirm that they are involved, merely interested.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Konami, Metal Gear Solid

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Review

I first got a chance to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 at this year's Tokyo Game Show. I'd hoped to find evidence that Konami's beleaguered soccer sim -- once the undisputed king of the fútbol mountain -- had finally made a solid transition to the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era. But the TGS demo left me cold; the herky-jerky animations and clunky controls overshadowed the surprisingly improved, far more realistic visuals. The game felt borderline unplayable, and the ultimate verdict seemed inevitable: Another year, another Germany-versus-Faroe Islands-style beatdown in favor of EA's FIFA juggernaut.

But a funny thing happened as I played through the final version. Yes, Pro Evo's animations are still stuck in the PS2 era and don't really capture the speed and fluidity of the real sport. And, yes, the sluggish controls take some getting used to and don't offer the pinpoint accuracy of FIFA. But as I spent more and more time with ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, TGS, Konami, Electronic Arts, PS2

News: US date for SH: Shattered Memories

Early December for horror Wiimake. Konami has announced that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will be out for Wii in the US on 8th December, with PS2 and PSP versions to follow later. Shattered Memories is Climax's attempt to re-imagine the original survival horror game on new platforms with considerably different mechanics. There's regular third-person camerawork, for example, and controls that make use of the Wiimote as a flashlight, and perhaps most significantly there's no combat.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories Wii Release Date Confirmed

Konami today confirmed that Silent Hill Homecoming will come out on the Wii in North America on December 8th. After many rumors many retailers had been suggesting this for some time but now we know for sure.

Originally the game was supposed to come out for the Wii, PS2, and PSP right around now in early November. Last month however, retailer listings started moving around in different places for all the platforms with no word from Konami.

Konami later told ComputerAndVideogames that the game was coming out in February with no specifics on platforms. However, because ComputerAndVideogames is a Europe-based site, Konami could have been telling them the game's European date.

Since late October, retailers had settled on an early December date for the Wii version of Shattered Memories with the PS2 and PSP versions shipping in winter 2010.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Konami, PS2, PSP, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack Review

I have to give some credit to Ubisoft for wanting to produce a new Ninja Turtles game that took after Konami's classic arcade beat-em-ups -- their other recent TMNT games, Smash-Up and Turtles in Time Re-Shelled , weren't total failures, and for what it's worth, Konami's old TMNT games were the only ones people still fondly remember. But somehow, TMNT Arcade Attack is a big step back. The idea is sound, but the end result is a nearly lifeless action game that ironically has barely anything to do with its classic predecessors.

Cleverly, you're playing with another player in co-op -- whether or not they're real. The game makes you choose a second turtle to join you, mainly because special attacks are based around team moves. Regardless, this is a beat-em-up by definition, but not in a great way: Run up the path until a group of enemies stroll in, take a couple of minutes beating them all up, then run up the path again to meet ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack, Konami, Ubisoft

Konami Reports Sales, Profit Declines In Half-Year

Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami said a "harsh" business environment consisting of unfavorable exchange rates and lower consumer spending drove sales and profits down for the fiscal half-year. Konami, whose business segments also include fitness clubs and arcade machines, said it sold 5.89 million software units during the six months ended September 30, down from 11.75 million units a year ago. Most of that disparity can be attributed to much lower sales in the Metal ...

Konami Predicts Profit Drop of 82%

Compared to what Konami made in the six-month period ending September 30th, 2008, it appears that the company has taken a tremendous blow for the same period this year.

The Japanese publisher has released a forecast which predicts a profit drop of 82 percent, though revenue as a while will only be down by 22.5 percent (JPY 114 billion/USD 1.26 billion), which is still nothing to sneeze at. Meanwhile, net income will drop from last year's JPY 12 billion (USD 132.8 million) to JPY 2.2 billion (USD 24.3 million).

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Konami

Rumor: Jackal ReBirth?

Konami has been on something of a WiiWare roll as of late with their ReBirth series, offering up new, bite-sized chunks of their glorious gaming past with graphics and sound clearly meant to evoke the earlier heyday of franchises such as Gradius, Contra, and most recently, Castlevania. And naturally, one would expect they will only be looking to add more to the mix.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Konami, Contra

Konami Expects Profits To Fall 82%

Bad news: In a financial forecast released by Konami for the six months ending September 30, the company predicts its profits will have dropped 82%. Ow.
Konami is expecting to collect around 1.26 billion US in revenue, down 22.5 per cent on the same period in 2008, while net income is expected to come in at 24.3 million, down from 132 million.
Konami feels the loss in profits is mainly due to the fact that the company released Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots last year, and this year, it did not release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots . If you pirated any Konami products over the last six months, you are part of the problem, and I demand you turn yourself in to the proper authorities at once.

Konami Warns Of Disappointing Fiscal First Half

Konami has become the latest Japanese publisher to reveal that it's had a weaker fiscal year so far than it predicted. The company says its fiscal half-year sales and profits are down due to a weak release slate, following a similar forecast reduction by Square Enix and warnings from Nintendo of its first annual profit decline in six years. In the six months ending in September 2009, Konami saw sales fall 22.5 percent year over ...

When Konami revealed that Metal Gear hero Solid Snake would be donning the garb of Assassin's Creed protagonist Altair in Metal Gear Solid 4, few saw it coming-- despite it being revealed a month and a half earlier on April 1st.

With Assassin's Creed 2 just around the corner, Gaming Union caught up with Ubisoft Montreal's Chief Executive Officer, Yannis Mallat, at the GameON: Finance conference in Toronto to ask if we could soon see an encore performance.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear, Ubisoft, Konami, Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid

News: Forza 3, FIFA 10 make Japan chart

But big westerners make little impact. Xbox 360 exclusive Forza Motorsport 3 has raced into the Japanese chart this week, finishing at six. That's one place above FIFA 10 on PS3, a game in a series long considered an outsider in the face of Konami's home-grown Winning Eleven series (Pro Evolution Soccer). There are two further new entries in the top 10, which are Rune Factory 3 on DS at five and Dynasty Warriors 6 Special on PSP at 10.
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker English Demo Announced

Kojima Productions announced today that an English demo for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker will be available sooner rather than later. This will come after three separate releases of the Japanese demo.

The Kojima Productions Report podcast said that the demo would be fully localized in English including voice acting from the previously announced English cast. No specifics were given on demo content but it is assumed that it will be identical to the latest Japanese demo, just all in English.

The demo for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker was first released unintentionally when IGN uploaded the Tokyo Game Show 2009 demo to their website. The same demo later showed up on Konami's own Japanese site for Peace Walker. A slightly modified Japanese demo is set to make its Playstation Store debut this weekend along with the Japanese launch of the PSP Go.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Kojima Productions, TGS, Konami, PSP

Kojima pleasantly shocked by ZOE enthusiasm

Konami ramp up for third game? Speaking on his blog, Konami game designer Hideo Kojima has revealed his surprise at the impassioned response to his recent Zone of the Enders chit-chat online. The veteran game maker revealed in a previous blog post that there is an internal enthusiasm for a new game in the series at Konami, while Kojima also said that he does indeed hope to make a sequel - one day. "The comments topped the 100 mark, and the access count reached levels of the Tokyo Game Show time. It was picked up in a variety of places, including the net and press, and spread throughout the world," he writes on the reaction this week. Apparently, Zone of the Enders is such an enticing prospect that other Konami staffers decorated his desk in the style of the game, with developers from other teams begging to be involved. More soon.
