Anderson Still Waiting on Castlevania Script, Has Eyes for Metal Gear

It seems as if the Castlevania movie has been spiraling in and out of development hell so much that I can't even remember what the last status update on it was.

But it matters little, for the latest word coming out of ShockTillYouDrop.com is that Resident Evil: Afterlife Producer Jeremy Bolt said "Paul W.S. Anderson is still circling video game adaptation Castlevania at Rogue Pictures and that they are waiting on a script."

If that weren't enough for you, it seems that Bolt and Anderson have their eyes on another Konami property as well: Metal Gear Solid. The duo would apparently like to help Columbia Pictures along with that project.

Mind, this doesn't confirm that they are involved, merely interested.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Konami, Metal Gear Solid

Paul W.S. Anderson Interested in Metal Gear Film, Still Eyeing Castlevania

Paul W.S. Anderson is currently overseeing the shooting of Resident Evil: Afterlife , the fourth entry in the film series that started with the Anderson-helmed first movie in 2002. But the producer/director is reportedly already eyeing some future projects -- and they're both videogame related, as well.
First, and this is starting to take on a Groundhog's Day quality, is the off-again , on-again Castlevania film adaptation. So reports ShockTillYouDrop ( via Kotaku), who spoke with RE: Afterlife co-producer Jeremy Bolt. According to the report, Bolt told the site that "Paul W.S. Anderson is still circling video game adaptation Castlevania at Rogue Pictures and that they are waiting on a script." What that means for the last bit of news we heard on this project (that Saw director James Wan became attached to co-write and direct) is hard to say, but this seems to be the film project that will neither die, nor get past ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear, Paul Barnett, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil: Afterlife

Paul W.S. Anderson Eyes Metal Gear Solid Movie?

Fans have surely been waiting a long time for the inevitable news of a film adaptation of the Metal Gear Solid games. How, then, would those fans feel, should a name such as Paul W.S. Anderson become attached to the project? Well, it turns out that there's a chance we may actually find out.

Website, ShockTillYouDrop , was recently in Toronto on the set of the Anderson-directed Resident Evil: Afterlife and conducted a brief interview with producer (and Anderson colleague) Jeremy Bolt. In addition to updating the status of the long-discussed Castlevania film, he dropped (what may turn out to be) a bit of bombshell when he stated that Anderson would like adapt Konami's Metal Gear Solid game franchise for the big screen. That, however, is the extent of what is known on the MGS issue, as more will surely develop to clarify (or perhaps shoot down) its significance.

Do we really need to go in serious depth as to the reasons why this is wrong? Some things are just so obvious, it's ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear Solid

Konami Reports Sales, Profit Declines In Half-Year

Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami said a "harsh" business environment consisting of unfavorable exchange rates and lower consumer spending drove sales and profits down for the fiscal half-year. Konami, whose business segments also include fitness clubs and arcade machines, said it sold 5.89 million software units during the six months ended September 30, down from 11.75 million units a year ago. Most of that disparity can be attributed to much lower sales in the Metal ...

Kojima on Snatcher, Adventure Game Genre

While Hideo Kojima is best-known for Metal Gear Solid, and we're all awaiting the return of Zone of the Enders, he recently got a chance to reflect on his other franchise, the cyberpunk adventure game Snatcher.

In an interview with Famitsu, transcribed by 1up.com, Kojima, alongside 428: In The Blocked Shibuya writer Jiro Ishii, talked about the game's connection to the acclaimed cyberpunk film Blade Runner, and the adventure genre's connection's to Kojima's own career. He also makes a rather interesting statement on the future of the gaming industry:

"This point isn't limited to the game business, but if we don't have an environment where developers can make what they want and find an audience for it, then I think it's all going to come crashing down," he said. "I think we'll see fewer people wanting to get into games, and that's dangerous."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid, 428, Blade Runner

With Assassin's Creed 2 just around the corner, Gaming Union caught up with Ubisoft Montreal's Chief Executive Officer, Yannis Mallat, at the GameON: Finance conference in Toronto to ask if we could soon see an encore performance.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Metal Gear, Ubisoft, Konami, Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid

The PSP Go will be launching in Japan on Sunday, and Kojima Productions is showing its support by releasing a new Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker demo. The Examiner is reporting that the demo will be launching with the handheld, and will be available on the Japanese PlayStation Network.

It seems that the demo will be based on the one that was at the Tokyo Game Show (and currently available for download around the Internet), but will feature new content. Among other things, there will be "enhancements," a new control setting, a new map and new cutscenes.

It's pretty easy to grab even if you don't own a PSP Go, so Metal Gear Solid fans should go and check it out. Just be aware that it's in Japanese.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PSP, Kojima Productions, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, TGS, Metal Gear Solid
