Modern Warfare 2 has been leaked onto the Internet, prompting Microsoft to announce that they will actively pursue any Xbox 360 piracy. In the meantime though, it appears that the original perpetrator has been arrested.

Venturebeat is reporting that Christian Del Amo, an 18-year-old from Miami, initially cracking the game's code on Monday, which was followed by a flood illegal copies on torrent sites.

Sorry Kids: Xbox Live Twitter, Facebook, Last.Fm To Remain Adults Only... For Now

This posts is strictly for teens, and by "teens" I mean people between the ages of 13 and 17 who are Xbox Live Gold members, so if this isn't you, please stop reading immediatly...
Seriously, stop reading this post. Go read The Wall Street Journal or something, old man.

That, my homies, is wickety, wickety wack. Denied... TO THE EXTREME!
Major Nelson says: "We made this decision because as it stands now, parents aren’t able to use Family Settings to customize which of these applications their children can access."
Dude, that's a total downer. But don't become a cutter or light up a crack-pipe: There's hope.
PlayStation 3 | Sony sued over PS3 firmware update problems

Owners of bricked systems file suit on behalf of everyone who downloaded system update 3.0 or 3.01; demand unspecified damages.
The ability of console makers to update their systems' firmware has a number of benefits, as evidenced by the continually expanding capabilities of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. However, the updating of firmware on all three platforms is sometimes associated with reports of systems being broken by the updates, or "bricked."

So we just install the new firmware and…
In some cases, the owners of ruined consoles do more than make angry message board posts about their misfortune. In late 2006, an Xbox 360 owner sued Microsoft over a system update rendering his console inoperable . That suit was dismissed in mid-2007 when Microsoft and the plaintiff reached an agreement out of court.

Now it's Sony's day in court, as last week a pair of PlayStation 3 owners who had their systems bricked ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PS3, Sony, Xbox 360, Microsoft

Details of Xbox LIVE Rewards Program(s) Revealed

Microsoft has recently been recruiting people through e-mail to participate in a new rewards program for Xbox 360 gamers, and today, the first details of the experiment have been uncovered.

The rewards program is currently being tested with three tiers as players are invited to join groups designated as Gray, Green, or Orange, with the prizes being Microsoft Points. GameSpy points out that "the vague language used in the program description seems to allude to Microsoft placing restrictions on what you can buy with your points: '...every month, The Rewards Squad will send you an email with an update on the points you've earned and the cool stuff you can get.'"

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Microsoft, Xbox, Xbox 360

Microsoft has completed the nine-month workforce reduction it started this January, with a stated final round of 800 job cuts this week taking the company's 2009 layoff total above its goal of 5,000. The company also finished ahead of time: in January, when it said it would be cutting roughly 5,000 jobs due to declining income and the broader unfavorable economic climate, Microsoft said the cuts would be made by June 2010.
Nintendo to Offer WiiWare Demos Starting This Month

It's rare that you hear Nintendo's WiiWare download service mentioned in the same breath as Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, probably due to the simple reason that the service lacks a way to try out the available titles. While each and every game on XBLA has an available downloadable demo, WiiWare games lack such a feature - or at least they will until this month.

At a recent investor session reported on by IGN, President Satoru Iwata confirmed that a some WiiWare games would have downloadable demos this month, as a test program for more widespread demos. While it wasn't confirmed if this service would remain Japan-only or would find its way to other territories, it's at least good to see that Nintendo is looking at ways to improve WiiWare's currently meager offerings.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Nintendo, Microsoft, Xbox Live Arcade, Satoru Iwata

Rare Looking Toward A Natal Shooter

Buried near the bottom of an interesting article on the history of the first-person shooter comes an interesting look into the genre's future from Rare’s Mark Betteridge. When asked how Microsoft's Project Natal and Sony's motion control system, Betteridge said,
"Right now our sights are trained on Natal, which is a great opportunity to break new ground with content and gameplay, It’s also an opportunity to exercise some genre evolution, so hopefully we’ll be able to develop something on that front.”
It shouldn't exactly shock anyone that Rare would like to work on a Natal game (after all, it's owned by Microsoft) but hopefully, if Rare does develop a Natal-based shooter, it will rise to the standards set by games like GoldenEye and the Perfect Dark games. In

Cutbacks and Casual Causality Kill Kameo 2's Creation

It has been revealed that a sequel to the Xbox 360 launch title Kameo: Elements of Power was in the works at Rare, but has recently been canned by Microsoft in favor of more Project Natal-oriented projects.

CVG reports that a source "close to the platform holder," i.e. Microsoft, said that the recent company-wide restructuring saw numerous "traditional" franchise sequels get the axe. But in the case of Kameo 2, its weak sales at the system's launch didn't exactly help sway anyone's decision toward keeping it on track.

Rare is said to be "intimately involved" in the launch of Project Natal, including some non-traditional games. But when asked for comment, Microsoft delivered the usual "rumor and speculation" line.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Microsoft, Project Natal, Xbox 360, Kameo: Elements of Power

Xbox Live Rewards Pilot Program Begins

Remember the mysterious Xbox Live rewards program that select subscribers were emailed about last month? It apparently kicked off as of yesterday -- for those who were chosen for the pilot program, that is.

Joystiq noticed this morning that Microsoft's official rewards website has gone live , and it has all the details on the program, what incentives are available, and the kind of activity subscribers are being rewarded for. Essentially, a small number of Microsoft points will be added to a user's account whenever they renew their Live subscription, subscribe to Netflix, purchase items on the Marketplace, or take the occasional survey.

Save for the surveys, most of those seem like the kind of things Live users were probably already planning on doing. The trial run of this program is going from now until April 30 of next year, so we'll see how much that all changes before it becomes available to everyone.

Iwata Explains Wii Price Cut Not Due to Competition; Profits Falling Due to Lack of Content

No one expected the Wii boom to last forever, and eyes have been on Nintendo lately as profits have begun to decline, with people wondering what Nintendo may have up its sleeve to remedy the situation.

President Satoru Iwata explained during an Investor Relations meeting that, rather than being driven to cut the price of the Wii as a result of mounting pressure from Sony and Microsoft, "underperformances were attributed primarily to the lack of continuous release of software titles which could strongly drive hardware sales and price cut of Wii hardware."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, Sony, Microsoft

Fight Night Round 4 Getting New DLC, Price Drop

More DLC is on the way for Fight Night Round 4 in December. EA revealed today that they'll be releasing another $9.99 (800 Microsoft points) add-on pack for their boxing sim, including a pair of fresh modes and several new boxers.

Fans can add Sonny Liston, Evander Holyfield, and Bernard Hopkins to their Fight Night rosters by picking up the DLC early next month. Also bundled with the new boxers is the "Ring Rivalries" mode, which aims to recreate historic boxing matches, as well as another new mode called "Old School Rules."

Additionally, EA announced that they've dropped the MSRP for Fight Night Round 4 to just $39.99. Not too shabby for a critically acclaimed sports game that's not even six months old, eh?

News: COD4 map pack price cut on Xbox Live

50 per cent off Variety bundle. Activision or Microsoft or whoever controls these things has reduced the price of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's Variety Map Pack on Xbox Live. Presumably this is an attempt to shift a few more copies of the pack before the release of MW2 next week, and sees the price cut from 800 to 400 Microsoft Points (or £3.40 / €4.80 for boring people). You can queue it up on the web if you're into that sort of thing.
News: Significant DLC plans for Mass Effect 2?

Retail quiz points to extensive support. BioWare is planning to support Mass Effect 2 with oodles of downloadable content, according to a report. Destructoid has got its hands on something called a "Microsoft Expert Zone quiz", a tool that briefs retailers about information on the games they sell, and it lists some interesting Xbox Live features for the upcoming sci-fi RPG. There's "planned episodic combat via DLC", new downloadable characters, weapons and armour, and "full campaign expansions" on the cards, apparently, along with "periodic updates" via something called the "Cerberus Network".
Point Purchasing Pooch Becomes First Officially Recognized Canine Member of Xbox LIVE

Remember last week, when we brought you the saga of Kotaku reader Greg, whose dog Oscar somehow managed to purchase 5,000 Xbox LIVE points for his owner while chewing on the console's controller?

Well, today brought about an official response from Microsoft on the matter. "People spend tens of billions of dollars on their pets every year," they note, "but it's pretty unusual for your pet to return the favor (except in love and tail wagging of course)."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Xbox, Microsoft

Microsoft Banning Xbox 360 Modders

It seems that quite a number of Xbox 360 users over the past week or so have been booting up their console only to find that their Xbox Live accounts have been ban-hammered by Microsoft. Turns out the house that Gates built has finally decided to take its boot to piracy’s neck in the form of mass bannings. As a spokesperson explained to IGN :
"We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live."
So if you’re enjoying your illegal games on your modded 360, play on at your peril I guess. And if you are among those modders who have had their Xbox Live accounts banned, I’m sure you’ve learned your lesson and will never mod a console or steal a game ever again. Mission accomplished.
Anyone out ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Xbox 360, Microsoft, Xbox

Three Episodes of Wallace & Gromit Releasing on XBLA Wednesday

They might not be following the episodic release structure that the PC versions are, but episodes two , three , and four of Wallace & Gromit are making their way to Xbox Live Arcade this week. The second episode was originally scheduled for release back in early September, but was delayed . All three have been available for months on PC, with the fourth episode being released back in July.

The lag between Xbox Live Arcade and PC release dates unfortunately doesn't mean you'll be getting any sort of discount. Each one costs 800 Microsoft Points ($10) on the Xbox Live Marketplace, whereas you can get each for $9 on PC or $35 for the entire season. It's not a huge discrepancy, but it's something worth noting if you have the option of playing the game on a computer.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare DLC is Xbox Live "Deal of the Week"

Modern Warfare 2 is barely over a week away, but if you'd rather dump some more time into its predecessor, then today's new Xbox Live "Deal of the Week" is for you. The "Variety Map Pack" for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is currently 50 percent off on the Xbox Live Marketplace, which brings the cost down from $10 (800 Microsoft points) to just $5 (400 Microsoft points).

This four-map bundle includes the following multiplayer arenas: "Creek," "Chinatown," "Broadcast," and "Killhouse." Assuming you haven't already purchased them -- or received them for free with the "Game of the Year" edition of Modern Warfare -- then this is a bargain you probably won't want to pass up. Just be sure to download the maps before next Monday, when there'll be a new "Deal of the Week."

'Traditional' franchises swept aside for Natal projects, CVG learns.

Rare's secretly in-the-works Kameo sequel is just one casualty of a Microsoft project cull at the studio, to make way for more Natal development, CVG has learned.
