Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Announced, Consoles Unspecified

Remember when Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was trademarked? Well surprise surprise! It actually turns out it's for a new game, set to be released in May of 2010, in time for the impending Prince of Persia motion picture. The game will eschew the new Prince of Persia mythos created by the last game in 2008, and will be a continuation of the classic Sands of Time trilogy, which began in 2003 and ended with 2005's Two Thrones. However, one important detail publisher Ubisoft forgot to mention is the game's platforms. Obviously, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are givens, but what about Wii or DS? Official Nintendo Magazine UK got a hold of Ubisoft to discuss the topic, and were told that platforms are unspecified. So when will the sand be blown off of this mystery? Ubisoft has confirmed the first trailer will debut during the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, which is quickly becoming a must see event.

Ubisoft announces The Forgotten Sands, a return to Sands of Time storyline; will be released alongside upcoming film adaptation next spring. One month after unconfirmed reports indicated that a new Prince of Persia game was in the works , Ubisoft has made it official. The French publisher announced today that next May it will ship Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for unspecified consoles and handhelds. Though short on specifics, the announcement did reveal that the game will mark a return to the storyline that began with the successful 2003 relaunch of the series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will introduce Jordan Mechner's world to a larger audience next May, but video game players are going back, too. Though last year's Prince of Persia reboot appeared to move the series in a new direction, Ubisoft has just announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands , which brings the series back to the original storyline. Ubisoft Announces New Prince of Persia Game

After taking a little time off, one of Ubisoft's top franchises is set to return early next year. The publisher has just announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which will be released on both "consoles and handhelds" alongside the upcoming film. It should be no surprise that they have opted to bring back elements from the Sands of Time , which will also feature prominently in the film. Ubisoft also promised "new gameplay innovations" for the upcoming game. The first trailer will premiere December 12 during the Spike Video Game Awards. Expect it to be announced for all major consoles.

McKidd Talks Call of Duty Movie

According to a story in the New York Post, Kevin McKidd, voice actor for Captain "Soap" MacTavish in Modern Warfare 2, has said that the video game franchise may be on its way to the big screen: "They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he told PopWrap. Asked if he'd reprise his role in the film, McKidd said "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely." Hmm, are we at a point where we can begin to have hope for something like this? Prince of Persia looks like it may be good, but that remains to be seen.

To say that Ubisoft has high hopes for the Prince of Persia movie would be an understatement. Speaking with a group of investors and industry executives at the BMO Capital Markets digital entertainment conference, Ubisoft chairman Yves Guillemot compared the upcoming films prospect to Pirates of the Caribbean (via Kotaku ). "[Prince of Persia] will show what a video game property can do in the (movie) industry," Guillemot said. "What we hear is that it could maybe be stronger than Pirates [of the Caribbean], which did 2.7 billion dollars worldwide."
