Ubisoft Won't Be Publishing No More Heroes HD In North America

Ubisoft is the nominal publisher for No More Heroes , but that won't be the case for the upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports. The publisher told G4 that they've decided to pass on a North American release for the game.

In a brief statement, a company representative said, "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions."

No reason was given for their decision. It's still possible that No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise will make it to North America, but it'll be through a different publisher. One possibility is Capcom, which published Grasshopper's Killer 7 back in 2005. Otherwise, there's the usual suspects such as Atlus.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Ubisoft, No More Heroes, Xbox 360, PS3, Paradise

God of War Collection: A Video Comparison

God of War Collection dropped this week, and many PS3 owners want to know if it’s worth the plunge. This new compilation features newly remastered versions of the PS2 classics on one Blu-ray, alongside with a voucher to download the God of War III demo from the PlayStation Store. We're not planning to run a review of GoW Collection , but that doesn't mean that we haven't taken the time to set up some comparison videos detailing the visual differences between both games running on a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3 versus the newly redone game. I've written up some impressions to go alongside the videos, which you can check out here .
In order to properly display the action, the comparison videos focus on two areas: combat and cinematic moments, such as cutscenes or quicktime events. Whether it’s Kratos jamming a Kraken head through a ship mast or climbing into the animated Colossus of Rhodes statue to dismantle it from within, I think the videos speak for ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, God of War, PS3

PlayStation 3 | PSN to be basis of Sony iTunes rival, accounts top 33 million

PS3 and PSP's online component will form backbone of Sony Online Service, a content-delivery system common to HDTVs, Blu-ray players, PCs, MP3 players, e-readers, and mobile devices.
In addition to confirming 3D gaming for the PlayStation 3 was coming in 2010 , yesterday's Sony Corp. global strategy presentation also revealed that a premium subscription service will be added to the PlayStation Network . Those two initiatives were revealed as part of a far larger vision which will see Sony try and overtake rival Apple's iTunes service with a common content distribution system for all its media products.

Sony aims to bring together all its products via one common online platform.

Temporarily named the Sony Online Service (SOS), the ambitious initiative aims to offer a single user experience across all its network media devices, from portable media players to large-screen Bravia HDTVs. At the presentation, Sony ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Sony, PS3, PSP

November Marks the Launch Anniversary of Many a Gaming Platform

A lot of console and handheld anniversaries are being observed this year, such as the SEGA Genesis, the Dreamcast, and the Game Boy. But November seems to be the month to remember, as many a memorable platform celebrate can celebrate its launch going into the Winter holidays.

First and foremost, one cannot overlook the platforms of this very generation. Earlier this week, November 17th marked the third anniversary of the PlayStation 3's North American launch, while the Wii celebrated its own third just yesterday, November 19th. And at the start of next week, November 22nd, the Xbox 360 will also be able to celebrate, except this will be its fourth.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360

Sega dethrones Winning Eleven with its own footie sim for the PSP; Sony's portable, PS3 nearly tie at top of hardware chart.
Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 (Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 internationally) opened big in Japan for the week of November 2-8, shifting some 217,000 units. One week later, and a new soccer game has worked its way to the top of Media Create's weekly sales chart; this one with a decidedly Japanese bent. For the week of November 9-15, Sega's J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J on the PSP scored big with 84,966 units sold.

Beyond J-League, the mid-November week had a number of charting debuts. Namco Bandai scored with Dragon Ball: Raging Blast, as the PlayStation 3 edition secured third with 57,972.
Mozilla Rejects Rumor of Firefox Coming to PS3

Yesterday, PlayStation Insider reported that Mozilla's popular web browser, Firefox, would soon be coming to the PlayStation 3 emerged. The credibility of this news was a bit shoddy, however, seeing as how the site has been wrong on multiple occasions. Today, Mozilla dispelled said rumor in an e-mail to PS3Center.net:

"Nope - not sure how that rumor got started but it's been keeping us busy all day :)"

Well, there you have it. It seems the PS3's OS will not be getting Firefox -- at least not anytime soon.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PS3

Sony "Confident" It Will Sell 13 Million PlayStation 3's This Year

Sony Computer Entertainment is aiming for 13 million PlayStation 3 consoles sold worldwide by the end of the fiscal year, as Executive Vice President Kaz Hirai explained to the press that he is "confident" that they can reach that goal.

Furthermore, they plan to achieve profitability with the platform by March 2011, with cost-cutting and investing in new technologies helping to pave the way, including their plans to focus on 3D gaming and movies with a firmware update.

Gamasutra notes that if Sony is able to accomplish the 13 million number by the end of their fiscal year in March 2010, it would "represent a significant gain over the company's fiscal 2008, which saw 10.1 million units sold." The company's own numbers show that they sold 4.3 million consoles combined over their first and second quarter, meaning they will have to sell over double that amount during the remaining half, which includes the holiday season.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Sony, PS3, Will Wright

God of War Collection Receiving Reports of Freezing Issues

The recently-released God of War Collection appears to be experiencing some technical hiccups, according to users on the PlayStation forums and blog (via Joystiq ). A handful of players are complaining of freezing during the opening cinema or stage. Most of the issues seem to be coming from 60 GB units, though there are a few PS3 Slim owners with complaints as well. Sony hasn't officially responded yet, but we're keeping an eye out for it.

If you've been having trouble, feel free to enter the PlayStation forums and let them know. As with all bug reports, the more information provided, the easier it is for developers to address them. Be sure to include your PS3 model and where the freeze occurred. The problem doesn't seem widespread; many players are enjoying the game just fine, and we haven't had any trouble here at 1UP. But we'll keep you up to date with word from Sony on a fix for those affected. ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, God of War, PS3, Sony, 1up

Watch the Video Walkthrough of the Newly Released adhocParty

At long last, the adhocParty feature has been released to those lucky enough to own both a PS3 and PSP. With it, you'll now be able to play some of your PSP games online that previously only allowed for ad-hoc multiplayer. One of the unfortunate drawbacks worth mentioning upfront is that you won't be able to make use of adhocParty if your PS3 connects to your router wirelessly. That's due to the fact that the PS3 is already communicating with your PSP wirelessly, so the only option for it to be able to connect to the internet -- at least at this point -- is through a wired connection. Hopefully an alternative method will be made available at some point to those, like myself, who simply can't connect wire their console to the internet -- maybe a USB dongle of some sort would do the trick?

So if you've passed all the caveats of having to own both a PSP and PS3, a supported PSP game with ad-hoc multiplayer, and a ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, PSP, PS3

We visit United Front Games to take a closer look at the fully customizable kart racer that is heading to the PlayStation 3.
Next up in the Play, Create, Share genre that Sony initiated with Little Big Planet is ModNation Racers, a classic kart racing game that lets you customize your own character and racing kart and build a professional-looking track from scratch in just minutes. We made a trip to Vancouver to meet up with United Front Games, the developer behind ModNation Racers, and had the opportunity to create our own character, test our skills on the track, and use our imagination to create the craziest course possible. What surprised us is just how easy it was to make a fun little course, and given the powerful and easy-to-use editor tools, there should be some exciting tracks once this goes out to the entire public.

You may or may not be familiar with United Front Games’ racing title ModNation Racers for the PlayStation 3, but after checking out our hands-on preview of this unique and ambitious kart racing game, your engines will be appropriately revved. Here’s a taste of what awaits you on the fully customizable roads of ModNation Racers :

“There are few game genres more timeless than racing. The goal is as self-explanatory as they come: get to first place. One of the greatest barriers for racing games to withstand the test of time is that, sooner or later, the tracks are bound to get old. United Front Studio's ModNation Racers seeks to fix that with its intuitive level editor adding "the deepest customization ever seen in a racer,” according to Dan Sochan, the game's producer.”

IBM Ending Cell Processor Development

IBM has confirmed that it will cease development of the Cell Processor used on the PS3 among other systems. This does not equate to an end of production.

IBM has been co-developing the Cell Processor along with Sony and Toshiba. Even after the PS3's launch better models of the processor have been developed between the three. IBM's most recent and supposedly last version of the Cell Processor is the PoweXCell 8i which is currently used in the world's second fastest supercomputer. IBM will not develop the planned 32 SPE version of Cell.

The status of actual development of the Cell Processor does not equate to the status of production of current models of the processor for the PS3. No reports have been made on changes to production or production of PS3s.

Despite ending development of the Cell itself, IBM will still incorporate parts of the Cell into future designs. Apparently they will pursue a CPU/GPU hybrid route in the future.

Technically, Sony can still hire IBM to develop a new Cell ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Cell, PS3, Sony, PS4

REVIEW: God of War Collection Gives the PS2 Games a Facelift

What the Game's About
God of War: Collection is the re-release of the PlayStation 2 classics God of War and God of War II. The games tell of the story of a tortured anti-hero named Kratos who seems to always get tricked by the Olympian gods, gets really pissed and ends up destroying a lot of stuff and people. The reason they are re-releasing on the PS3 is that Sony's Santa Monica studios updated the visuals to a crisp 720p while retaining everything else you remember about these games.

What's Hot
A visual upgrade is a great way to reintroduce the wrath-filled tale of Kratos. The games looked great on the PS2 to begin with, but the PS3 has since blown anything the PS2 could do out of the water and them some (nomination for understatement of the year!). The new coat of paint on the textures remain faithful to the original material but gives it an HD shine that looks stunning on TVs. This is the real reason to pick this collection of classic games all over again. Screen shots don't do this texture ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, God of War, PS2, Kratos, PS3, God of War II

PSP, PS3 Lead Weekly Japanese Sales Charts

Sony pulled off a two-pronged victory in Japan this week, as the PSP and PlayStation 3 captured the one and two sales spots, respectively, topping the typical weekly dominator, Nintendo DSi. Sony's PSP handheld sold 38,770 units for the week ended November 15, Japanese tracking firm Media Create said Friday. Its home console counterpart, PS3, secured a close second place with 38,498. During the prior week, PS3 outsold all other hardware with 48,925 sold during ...

The company has been discussing its strategy for the year ahead in some depth lately, including its plans to achieve profitability by March 2011. To that end, Sony's undertaking cost-cutting and investing in new technologies, notably with a focus on 3D entertainment ...

Hands On: Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Bringing down the beta house. Jumping from Modern Warfare 2 to Bad Company 2 isn't recommended. While both are broadly similar in concept - modern military shooters set in an imaginary land war between America and Russia - the difference in style couldn't be more pronounced. Infinity Ward's big-bollocked blockbuster has the bone-rattling volume and GRAAAAAGH KILLING SPREE! adrenaline rush, but try those bombastic Hollywood heroics over in DICE's theatre of war and you'll be shot to ribbons before you can say "danger close". Currently titillating PS3 owners with an exclusive multiplayer beta, a whopping four months from release, Battlefield looks set to continue its conquest of the middle ground between Call of Duty's crowd-pleasing mayhem and Operation Flashpoint's brutal realism. Even more than its predecessor, which marked the series' debut on consoles, Bad Company 2 is undeniably part of the PC lineage.
Review: Buzz!: Quiz World

Question time. First, the good news: Buzz! is back! A new instalment in the hit series of quiz games has been released just in time for Christmas. It features 5000 new questions, three more round types and three new characters. There has been a host of minor technical improvements which enhance the overall experience to a significant degree. Now, the bad news: Buzz is back. The eponymous quiz show host is as bouncy, bolshy and full of irritating wisecracks as ever. Once again it will be just minutes before you want to grab him by his silly hair, yank the top of his giant head as far back as it will go, stuff your Buzz! controller into his gaping maw, push it so far down his gullet the flashing red button pops out the other end, stab the sharpened end of a tree branch into each buttock and call him Rudolph. Buzz!: Quiz World features old favourites such as Fastest Finger, Pass the Bomb ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Buzz! Capcom has announced that the swathe of new downloadable content for Resident Evil 5, to be released early next year, will make its way onto a disc after all. Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition for the PS3 and Xbox 360 - not the PC - will include the original game, two new episodes, new costumes, and eight new playable characters for a new version of Mercenaries Mode called The Mercenaries Reunion. It will be released on 9th March 2010 in North America at a standard retail price of $49.99, and 12th March in Europe. The PS3 Gold Edition will pack it all onto a Blu-ray, while the 360 version will be the original game on DVD plus a DLC download token, so if your 360 is offline, then tough. The game developers take pride in being able to "sadistically" kill enemies with torture moves. Other moves unique to the game include Bayonetta using her hair to summon demons or having a giant stiletto crush enemies. Check out this developer diary to see for yourself.
