News: Sonic compilation for DS in March

Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. SEGA has announced plans to release a DS Sonic compilation next March. Called Sonic Classic Collection, it rounds up the usual suspects: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. SEGA says the quartet have been "optimised" for the DS, at least to the extent that they receive a save-anywhere feature so you don't have to start again every time. Read more...

Amazon Germany Posts Listing for Yakuza 3

Things are looking a little brighter for a Western release of Yakuza 3... at least, they are in Germany. For it is that nation's Amazon which now contains a listing for the eagerly-anticipated SEGA game, Kotaku reports. And while an online retail sighting such as this might normally be easily dismissed, they point out that Amazon Germany has a pretty good track record, correctly "predicting" the release of a slim PlayStation 3 and a 250GB Xbox 360.

Sega Announces Sonic Classic Collection

If you haven't had your fill of classic Sonic the Hedgehog on every other platform, then Sega has you covered. The publisher has announced that they will once again be bundling together their mascot's classic adventures, this time for the Nintendo DS. Sonic Classic Collection features Sonic the Hedgehog , Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles . It will also introduce a save feature to Sonic 1 and 2, which is a first for those games, and a video recounting his history. "The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world," said Sega of America vice president of marketing Sean Ratcliffe.

Media: SEGA Reveals Sonic Classic Collection for DS

It appears that some of the rumors and theories surrounding the registration of "Sonic Classic Collection" with the BBFC were indeed true after all. Today, SEGA Europe announced the title, which will be hitting their shelves in March 2010; as of this writing, SEGA America has yet to say anything about a release over here. It brings together the four main SEGA Genesis Sonic titles, "optimised to take full advantage of the Nintendo DS system" by letting players save anywhere at any time, plus videos and "collectible pictures" for fans. But, there seems to be something they aren't telling us; check out the pic from Sonic & Knuckles; could this version introduce some new form of co-op or competition between Sonic and his friendly rival, Knuckles? We'll have to wait and see. For now, check out our gallery, which has all four screens in a much higher resolution.

Yakuza 3 Listed on Amazon Germany for March

While we're still waiting on official confirmation that Yakuza 3 is indeed being localized for western release, Amazon Germany has appeared to provide further unofficial evidence that fans of the series should keep up hope. A listing for Yakuza 3 has appeared on the Amazon Germany site, where it's apparently set for a March release. We were told back in September by a source close to the project that game was in fact undergoing localization for an eventual U.S. release, but Sega has yet to confirm it. VG247 also contacted Sega concerning this Amazon Germany listing, but were given a standard "no comment" response by a Sega representative. Still, this seems to provide more hope that the series will once again make its way outside of Japan. Tails and Sonic 2 Turn 17

I'm really going to have to quite acknowledging the anniversary of every little video game-related thing that comes up. But before I do that, one more for the road, I guess. SEGA's Sonic City Blognik pointed out today that Tails, and thus Sonic the Hedgehog 2, turned 17 this week and celebrated with a day out on the town. You can click over to see pics of Tails out and about. Thinking back, Sonic 2 was and often still is considered the best in the series, though Sonic 3 & Knuckles is collectively nothing to sneeze at. One reason I think I liked it so much was because of the introduction of Tails.

After Burner Climax Rated For Sony By Korean Board

A classic flight sim of Sega's might be heading to the PSN soon. After Burner Climax, originally a full-blown arcade game, was recently rated by the OFLC and Korean Game Rating Board for Sony. However, Joystiq points out that a similar game, Outrun Online Arcade, was given a multi-console release, so it's highly possible we'll also see it on the XBLA. Expect more info soon, as Joystiq has contacted Sega about the upcoming game.

Western Bayonetta Demo Fully Available Next Week

After a few previous opportunities, the demo for the upcoming Bayonetta will be available to everyone in western territories with next week's console store updates. No changes have been mentioned from the demos previously made available. The last two times the Bayonetta demo was made available users had to jump through a few hoops to get it. In the beginning of October prior to the game's October 30th release, the demo was made available on Xbox Live and Playstation Network in their Japanese regions. Many western users got the demo with Japanese accounts and you still can if you don't want to wait another week. The first official availability of the Bayonetta demo in the west was with a promotion that offered the chance to win the demo on Xbox Live to subscribers to Sega's newsletter. The promotion ended on November 13th and wasn't available on Playstation Network however. December 3rd will be the first official release of the Baoynetta demo in the west for PS3 owners or anyone who didn't want ...

North American Bayonetta Demo Due Next Week

If you haven't had a chance to try Bayonetta for yourself, you'll soon have a good opportunity. Sega has just announced that the western demo is due on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next week. The demo is unlikely to be changed from the version that was released in Japan last month. The Japanese demo gave PS3 owners access to the Tutorial and Angel's Metropolis, while the Xbox 360 version added the Falling Clock Tower stage.

Bayonetta Demo Coming December 3rd

The demo version of Bayonetta has been confirmed for a December 3rd launch, so all systems are go for gamers looking for a looped-out action title where a hot chick shoots dudes with guns built-in to her high heeled shoes. The demo will be out on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Sega, Bayonetta's publisher, says the game is poised to become "one of the all-time benchmarks in action gaming," but Sega is understandably biased. The foreign game press, however is less biased and has generally been raving about this one. Sonic Races into LittleBigPlanet

Sega and Media Molecule have teamed up to add Sonic and friends to the playable skins in LittleBigPlanet, revealed at the site for PlayStation Asia. Sonic the Hedgehog Costumes Coming To Little Big Planet

Sonic fans might want to keep an eye out for the latest round of Little Big Planet DLC in December. According to Siliconera , Sega and Sony are collaborating on a costume back containing a variety of Sonic characters, including Tails, Knuckles and the blue hedgehog himself. The costumes will reportedly be available in a pack, or individually. They include Sonic, Sonic the Werehog, Tails, Dr. Eggman and Knuckles costumes. There's no word on pricing or a release date, except that it will likely be released in mid-December. The only official mention of the pack so far is on PlayStation Asia , but expect more details soon.

News: Super Monkey Ball 2 coming to iPhone

It's due out in time for Christmas. An iPhone version of Super Monkey Ball 2 is due to launch in the App Store by the end of the year. The game will feature 115 new levels, local multiplayer, better graphics and an enhanced control system. It will also come with a mini-game, Monkey Bowling. SEGA Looking into PlayStation 3 Bayonetta's Load Times

Much ado has been made over the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta and its discrepancies with the Xbox 360 lead version, including load times-- approximately 25 seconds to load a stage, 10 seconds for a cutscene, and five seconds for a menu, according to one post in their official forums. Fortunately, that appears to be one area SEGA is willing to try making things right.

"Something I cannot address directly is when this will occur. Before you know it, February will be right around the corner, and with it comes the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which return to North America for the second time in a decade. Just like last year's Summer Games, Sega will be publishing the official licensed game for the upcoming Vancouver Olympic Games. Jeremy Zoss checked out Vancouver 2010: The Official Game of the Winter Olympic Games during a recent Sega-sponsored trip to Park City, Utah, the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
