Just Cause 2 landing in March

The tropical adventure will be parachuting its way to US shelves on March 23 rd followed by the UK and Australia come the 26 th, Square Enix has announced.
Developed by Avalanche Studios, Just Cause 2 is an open-world sandbox title following the exploits of suave thrill-seeking agent, Rico Rodriquez. Having been sent to Panau Island to face his mentor from the first game, Rico will be tasked with ridding the place of a typically evil despot in the process. The grapple and parachute make a welcome return and if the developers are to be believed the sequel will feature a greater level of variety this time around.
The original Just Cause was generally considered a fun but flawed effort, averaging an Xbox 360 score of 73 on Metacritic. With new weapons such as laser-sighted rockets and new vehicles including a jumbo jet, Just Cause 2 looks to be upping the ante in every way, hopefully resulting in a more enjoyable package overall.
With a reported 400 square miles of land featuring snow, jungle ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Just Cause 2, Square Enix, Avalanche Studios, Just Cause, Xbox 360

Just Cause 2 Parachutes In March 23

Square Enix seems to be especially busy lately, considering the whole Eidos thing. Their latest announcement is grappling down a date for Just Cause 2, set to hits stores on March 23, which seems to be becoming a big month for the company.

While the original Just Cause didn't exactly set the world on fire, the sequel, with its on-the-fly parachuting and grappling, seems to be turning out quite nicely.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Just Cause 2, Square Enix, Eidos, Just Cause

Just Cause 2 Release Date Announced

Open-world action game Just Cause 2 will be available for purchase on March 23rd, 2010, in North America.
We've been holding our breath for a long time for Just Cause 2; originally, the game was announced for a Christmas 2008 release. Judging from what Square Enix says, it will be worth the added wait. Just Cause 2 features over 1000Km (400miles) of South East Asian island landscape in "one of the richest, most realistic game worlds ever seen." Terrain includes snow-capped mountains, beaches, dense jungle and arid deserts.
Now as long as there's a great game that takes place in all that open-world space, we're all set. I don't know about you, but I would rather play a game that takes place in a "linear world" but has an awesome story and exciting gameplay than play a game with minimal story but a huge map.
Of course, in a perfect game, a big, interesting map and exciting story co-exist in awesomeness-- Fallout 3 did ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Just Cause 2, Square Enix

Square Enix Doing Cinematics For Deus Ex 3

Square Enix has announced that the first collaborative effort between the Final Fantasy publisher and the (fairly) recently purchased Eidos Interactive will in fact be Eidos Montreal’s next installment in the Deus Ex franchise.

As Square Enix general manager Stephane D’Astous told Edge Online , “ Deus Ex 3 is going to be the first project which will be a concrete product of joint effort between Square Enix and Eidos. The cinematics—by which I mean any CGI pre-rendered cinematics — are going to be done in Tokyo by Square Enix, and that's going to be amazing."

D’Astous went on to say that the Square team is especially excited about the project since it will be their “first project…that’s a non-Final Fantasy title – they even want to work on Thief 4 too, so everyone is really excited.”
When I think of Deus Ex cinematics, the first thing that comes to mind if the opening of Deus Ex: Invisible War , because I ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Deus Ex 3, Eidos, Final Fantasy, Deus EX

Just Cause 2 Confirmed for Spring Release

Looks like Square Enix hopes to see a return on that Eidos investment sooner rather than later; the publisher announced this morning that Just Cause 2 will be hitting store shelves on March 23, 2010 -- just before the end of the fiscal year, incidentally.

Along with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days , Just Cause 2 will be among the first major Eidos properties to come out of the company following this year's acquisition by Square Enix. Will it make a bigger splash than the original Just Cause ? Developer Avalanche Studios has had over three years since the first game released, so it should be interesting to see what they've learned since then.

With Final Fantasy XIII's Japan release only weeks away, news has been pouring in regarding what to expect from the series' next installment. While Japanese gamers don't have to wait long to get their hands on the game, North American and European gamers will have to wait until March 9 to explore the world of Cocoon.

There is however, one more tidbit of content that is sure to come our way before year's end. In fact, you can expect to see a new trailer, the final trailer for the game on Wednesday of next week. Check Square-Enix's official site to see the countdown.

Supreme Commander 2 Moves Out in March

Square Enix hasn't been known for advancements in the real-time strategy genre...or Western-developed games at all for that matter. However, that will change in March 2010, which has been announced as the official release date for Supreme Commander 2, the sequel to 2007's acclaimed RTS by Gas Powered Games. Oh yeah, and there's a new making-of video too!

While we're excited to finally see the game released, I gotta wonder what Square Enix is thinking put it up against of their hugely-anticipated games, which is Finally coming out the same month.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Supreme Commander 2

News: FFCC: Crystal Bearers here in February

Wii action-adventure finally pinned down. Square Enix will release Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers in Europe on 5th February. The Wii adventure has just launched in Japan and will be available in the US on Boxing Day, bizarrely. Crystal Bearers was revealed at E3 2005 long before the Wii (then the Revolution) had gone on sale. The idea, we presume, was to use the momentum generated by GameCube's excellent Crystal Chronicles from 2004.
New Lufia Confirmed for DS, Remake of Lufia II

Last week, it was announced that Square Enix would be bringing back the Lufia series, known as Estpolis in Japan. However, we didn't know the platform. Now, Famitsu has confirmed that the game will be heading to what seems to be Square-Enix's go-to console, the Nintendo DS.

Estpolis: The Land Cursed by Gods will actually be a remake of the classic Lufia 2, adding 3D graphics and voice acting. The action will be on the top screen, with the bottom screen used for a map, as well as to switch out party members. It'll also be developed by Neverland, who worked on the previous games for Taito.

The game is set for release in Japan on February 25th.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, DS, Taito

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Officially Announced

While it was already confirmed by a trademark application back in July, Square Enix, Eidos, and IO Interactive today confirmed that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is in the works for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, to release sometime in 2010.

While little was revealed about the new game, IO Interactive did say that the game would use "a new visual experience" based on various documentary filmmakers. It will also hopefully be completely devoid of Bruce Willis.

Hopefully, the game will also have a higher body count this time...and a lower body count for games journalists.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, IO Interactive, Square Enix, Eidos, PS3, Xbox 360

News: Supreme Commander 2 blooms in spring

Gas Powered Games details PC/360 sequel. Square Enix has announced the spring 2010 arrival of Supreme Commander 2 on PC and Xbox 360. Set 25 years after the original, SupCom 2 is based around a fragile and distrustful alliance between The United Earth Federation, The Illuminate and The Cybran Nation. Obviously they'll be blowing each other to pieces in trademark battles of enormous proportions - which can be zoomed right in or out of at the scroll of a wheel (or press of a pad, presumably) - but Gas Powered Games also claims to have instilled character and emotion into the story.
Kane & Lynch Sequel Confirmed for Next Year

IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch did fairly well for Eidos back in 2007 -- despite some unfortunate controversy -- and now Square Enix is hoping to cash in on their recent purchase of Eidos with a Kane & Lynch sequel. As anyone who follows the videogame trademark scene might have suspected, the follow-up will be titled Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days .

Square Enix intends on releasing Dog Days on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC sometime next year. It's set in Shanghai's criminal underworld, and the developers promise "a new visual experience... inspired by documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era."

What's that mean, exactly? Our guess: Kane spends the duration of the game documenting the effects of an all-Baconnaise diet; meanwhile, Lynch refuses to leave his bedroom until he finishes his Dom DeLuise tribute livery in Forza 3 . Sounds riveting, no?

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Eidos, Square Enix, IO Interactive, PS3, Xbox 360

Square Enix confirms Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC sequel to 2007's Dead Men will be set in the Shanghai underworld.
IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men introduced the world to the titular duo in a violent third-person shooter that received a lukewarm reception from critics. That was never going to be the last gamers saw of the pair, as Lionsgate landed the rights to bring Kane & Lynch to the big screen even before the original game launched. ( Bruce Willis has since reportedly signed on to play Kane .)

It's hard keeping a dead man down.

Now a follow-up to Dead Men is on the way, as Square Enix, the new owner of publisher Eidos, today announced Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Set for release next year, Dog Days is being developed by IO Interactive, the Danish studio behind the first title, as well as the recent Mini Ninjas , the cult favorite Freedom Fighters, and the long-running Hitman series.
Lufia Series Returns to DS

Following up their teaser announcement on Famitsu.com last week, Square Enix released the first official details today on Estpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods , a brand-new Nintendo DS installment in the role-playing series known as Lufia in America. The game's due out February 25 in Japan for 5980 yen; no US date has been announced.

The new Estpolis is being developed by Lufia creator Neverland Company, with much of the staff of Lufia II closely involved with the project. That's no accident, as it turns out: This Estpolis is an action-RPG "rebirth" of Lufia II, which originally hit the Super NES in 1996.

Starring Maxim, a young monster hunter blessed with impressive and mysterious powers, the game features him and his friends on a quest to uncover what lurks behind the Wave Device, an object that grants the user godlike powers. As in Lufia II, the game will feature dungeons that focus heavily on puzzle-solving; ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, DS, SNES

Founded in 1998 and headquarted in Copenhagen, Denmark, IO Interactive is one of the oldest surviving Scandinavian developers. Originally independent studio, the company was purchased by Eidos and is now part of the Square Enix Group. While mostly known for its action-heavy third person games such as the Hitman franchise and Kane & Lynch, the studio has branched into a new direction with the recently released, lighthearted Mini Ninjas.

Unnamed third title in development at Thief and Deus Ex studio.

Okay, so there's no details and the publisher is remaining tighter-lipped than a botox overdose, but confirmation that Square Enix is working on a "global" game with its Eidos acquisition is still sort of exciting, isn't it?
Square Enix Creating First Global Game with Eidos Montreal

Eidos Montreal (or are they called Square Enix Europe Montreal now?) is hard at work at several other games right now, but that isn't stopping them from making a game for their new parent company.

At the recent Montreal Games Summit, Square Enix head honcho Yoichi Wada stopped by to reveal that the RPG giant is co-developing a game with the Montreal branch, marking the first time that Square Enix would be working hand in hand with a western developer.

Let's just hope there's some time and consideration put into this one, and not just the usual Square Enix tactic of putting an established franchise into a new genre.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Eidos

Xbox 360 | Square Enix, Eidos collaborating on new project

First joint venture between Japanese company and new subsidiary being undertaken at Deus Ex 3, Thief 4 development house in Montreal.
In July, Square Enix retired the Eidos publishing label , having purchased the UK-based outfit as part of an initiative to better tap into the global audience earlier this year. However, Eidos' studios remain active. The development arm is currently at work on new installments in such Western franchises as Hitman, Tomb Raider, and Thief--games that will join upcoming Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest projects bearing the Square Enix moniker.

Could it be Kingdom Hearts: The JC Denton Affair?

As could be expected, though, Square Enix's development teams and Eidos' studios will be doing some intermingling going forward. On hand at the Montreal Games Summit today, UK gaming magazine Develop reports that Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has confirmed that the company's first game to bear influences ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Eidos, Square Enix, Xbox 360, Deus Ex 3, Thief 4

Square Enix purchased Eidos Interactive to expand their brand, and they sure aren't wasting any time doing it. According to CEO Yoichi Wada, Square Enix and Eidos Montreal are currently collaborating on what's being described as the publisher's first "truly global game" (via Develop ).

Speaking at the Montreal Games Summit, Wada said that the new title will mark "the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal."

"We would like to be able to create a new title that is made by the group as one."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Square Enix, Eidos

Final Fantasy XIII release dated

Final Fantasy XIII will be releasing on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US and PAL territories simultaneously, it has been announced.
With the date of March 9 confirmed, it seems those of us in Europe (and presumably Australia) will be playing the anticipated JRPG just a few months after Japan’s December release. It has also been reported that Britain’s very own manufactured star, Leona Lewis will be contributing her song ‘My Hands’ to be the game’s official theme.
FFXIII sparked a good deal of controversy among Playstation fans last year when Square Enix announced it would be releasing on Microsoft’s console in NTSC and PAL territories. Despite some initial fanboy anger, few would dispute that a larger market means more sales and Square will no doubt be shifting millions of units when the game hits early next year.
At time of writing, this release date serves to compound the certainty of an amazing first quarter with FF coming in only slightly later than the ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy XIII, Xbox 360, PS3, Square Enix, Mass Effect 2

Games are in a "Cambrian explosion" of formats and styles, says Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada -- but he warns that may be creating a confusing or unappealing image of the medium to some consumers, warns Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada. "Whether content or service, there needs to be some image within customer's [mind] of a format," Wada said in his keynote at the Montreal International Game Summit. "Once that is finalized, we will be ...
