News: BioWare reveals SWTOR's Alderaan

Millions of voices suddenly etc. BioWare has officially unveiled Alderaan as a playable location in its Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic. Princess Leia's home planet, famously destroyed by the Death Star in A New Hope, is undergoing a time of political unrest at the time The Old Republic is set. Different noble houses are vying for the throne in a bloody civil war, including one supported by the Empire and one by the Republic. The scene's set for intrigue and probably a bit of skirmishing, then. The concept art and screenshots show a lavishly-appointed city and snow-capped mountain ranges - "A vision of utopia," according to the blurb - to explore. New Star Wars Game to be Unveiled at Spike VGAs

Another day, another tease from Spike as to a world premiere title, set to be unveiled at the 2009 Video Game Awards. However, this one will likely be one of the biggest yet, as it comes to us from a certain galaxy far, far away. Video Games | Spike TV VGAs 2009 | Star Wars TeaserXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii As to the identity of the new Star Wars title, it's anyone's guess, but my money's on Force Unleashed 2 or Battlefront 3. Still, I certainly wouldn't mind a new Republic Commando, or perhaps the return of Rogue Squa...nahhhh.

Fifth Professor Layton Announced

Level 5 announced today the name and details of the fifth Professor Layton game for the DS. It will be a direct sequel to the fourth game in its trilogy of prequels. Upon this week's Japanese release of the fourth Layton game The Specter's (or Devil's depending on the translation) Flute, Level 5 announced that the next game will be called The Miracle Mask and will release in Japan Fall 2010. It seems that Level 5 has pulled a Star Wars on us with the continuity of the Layton games. Miracle Mask along with Specter's Flute takes place before the first game Curious Village in a planned trilogy of prequels about sidekick Luke Triton first becoming Hershel Layton's apprentice.

New Star Wars Game to Premiere at VGAs

We know this year's Spike Video Game Awards will feature game premieres, like the first official look at Halo: Reach . But Master Chief isn't the only space opera getting unveiled, as Geoff Keighley tweeted a tease for a new Star Wars game to be announced. He also linked to a teaser video , which uses footage from known Star Wars games. Of course, we have no idea yet what the game will be, but a few educated guesses come to mind. Leaked footage of Star Wars Battlefront 3 spurred rumors that it was moving back to Pandemic studios , but they were recently shut down . Battlefront 3 may have still survived in some capacity and moved on to another developer. Another possibility is the a successor to The Force Unleashed ; the game was a financial success, and LucasArts probably doesn't want to have all that work on the physics engine go to waste on just one game. Or, of course, it could be something else entirely. ...

News: SWG claims 3m player-made quests

Ageing MMO enlivened by Chronicle Master. Sony Online Entertainment has announced that players have created over three million quests for its Star Wars Galaxies MMO in just over a month. The quests were made using the new Chronicle Master system for content creation. That's a remarkable number, considering that Galaxies' subscriber numbers have recently shrunk to such an extent that SOE had to close nearly half its servers. One individual player is said to have made over 6000 playable quests. Star Wars Galaxies Users Generate 3 Million Custom Missions

With all eyes on Star Wars: The Old Republic , it's easy to forget the "other" Star War MMORPG. Star Wars Galaxies is still kicking around though, and it has a successful mission creation tool to prove it. Introduced back in October, Chronicle Master allows users to create their own missions and share them with the community. Fans have apparently responded in a big way, creating some three million pieces of interactive Star Wars fiction in just over a month alone. The Chronicle Master is similar to the City of Heroes Mission Architect, which was released earlier this year. It was similarly successful , generating some 3800 arcs in the first 24 hours it was available.

LEGO Rock Band

The rhythm game genre is reaching a saturation point and LEGO Rock Band is yet another example of publishers actively looking at new ways to try and keep things fresh and interesting for the established fan base. Unfortunately, while the LEGO brand has been enough to help other licenses like Star Wars and Batman find new life, it just doesn't do enough to elevate Rock Band to new heights.

BioWare Reveals New Old Republic Character Class

BioWare has revealed Star War: The Old Republic's latest character class. For fans of deadly efficient assassination, meet the Imperial Agent, who specializes in having "the right tools at the right time." "The Imperial Agent is heavily inspired by several classic Star Wars characters such as Zam Wesell and Grand Moff Tarkin. Imperial Agents work behind the scenes to get the work of the Empire done," wrote BioWare's Sean Dahlberg. "Specializing in high-tech gear, the Imperial Agent always has the right tools at the right time. They use abilities of subversion and subterfuge to infiltrate and assassinate enemies of the Sith Empire with deadly efficiency. Players who choose to be Imperial Agents in The Old Republic will see the underbelly of the Empire in a whole new light."

Sneaky type on the dark side of the Force. BioWare and LucasArts have revealed the sixth of eight character classes in their Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic: the Imperial Agent. This rogue-style class on the Empire side specialises in subterfuge, infiltration and assassination, doing the Empire's dirty work behind the scenes. Imperial Agents' skills will be based around the use of high-tech gadgetary. Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Review

The Battlefront series sheds light on the many battles from the Star Wars movies -- all from the perspective of a ground-level soldier or Jedi. You choose a class, a loadout, and then help your squad accomplish objectives through piloting vehicles, taking control points, and switching classes and weapons at stations sprinkled throughout the battlefield. Elite Squadron , the second title in the series to appear on PSP, once again revisits both Star Wars trilogies. The campaign starts at the beginning of the Clone Wars with twin brothers, X1 and X2, who were cloned from some Jedi DNA and were then tasked with training the Republic's budding army in the fight against the Empire. Early on, I led a rebel squad on an infiltration mission to steal plans to the Death Star; later, I provided cover for Alliance troops on Hoth as they evacuated from encroaching Empire forces. The plot ends up playing out as though it was cobbled ...
