It's the naughty corner for this man. An Ubisoft scriptwriter has confirmed to the UK's Official PlayStation magazine that Far Cry 3 is in development. Kevin Shortt, speaking at an Avatar press event, was asked by the mag if he was working on a sequel to last year's sandbox shooter, (as reported by CVG). "No I'm not," he said. Today during a media junket for the upcoming Avatar video game, Ubisoft writer Kevin Shortt was asked about the next successor in the Far Cry series by OPM, a UK-based magazine. Specifically, he was asked about his personal involvement in it: "No I'm not, but I know the team are and what I've seen looks pretty exciting." Far Cry 3 was pretty much expected, but it's always nice to receive an official confirmation. Don't expect any details on the game to arise any time soon, however.

This isn't the very first time we're hearing about Far Cry 3 , but it's been a long time without any word from Ubisoft. While hardly a formal announcement, Ubisoft writer Kevin Shortt told The Official PlayStation Magazine (via CVG ) that, while he isn't personally working on Far Cry 3, "I know the team are and what I've seen looks pretty exciting." That doesn't leave us with any indication of what to actually expect in Far Cry 3. We did get a clue last summer when, prior to the release of Far Cry 2 , Ubisoft Montreal's Patrick Redding said they had a "commitment to the African setting" for the next Far Cry game. Redding noted (via VG247 ), "There are still things we want to do with the African setting, and I think it's safe to say we'll continue to explore it. Assassin's Creed II Sells 1.6 Million Worldwide

Assassin's Creed II far surpassed the original in quality, so, in turn, it's looking like it may surpass the original in sales. Ubisoft announced today that the game has already sold 1.6 million worldwide through internal estimates. Also, the series is now the fastest-selling original IP of this generation, which isn't too shabby. Even moreso, the game sold 32 percent more than the original title did when it was released back in 2007. I think it's safe to say that we have another blockbuster on our hands, and another assassin will likely don the hood in the near future.

To the shock and awe of no one, Ubisoft has revealed that it is currently working on a third installment in its acclaimed Far Cry series, CVG reports. In an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Far Cry 2 writer Kevin Shortt said that while he wasn’t personally working on Far Cry 3 , "I know the team…and what I’ve seen looks pretty exciting." While I wouldn’t expect anyone from Ubisoft to say the game looks amateurish and will surely establish residency in the heart of Suckberg, it’s good to hear the game is progressing nicely at this point. Ubisoft has announced that its critically acclaimed sequel Assassin’s Creed II outsold its predecessor by 32 percent in its first week of sale, moving 1.6 million units since it was released on Nov. 17. You might have forgotten this, but Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed made ridiculous amounts of the mean green when it was released back in 2007, and in fact, it’s still the fastest selling new game IP ever. Now we’ll have to see if Ezio will be able to maintain the momentum and end up passing the 8 million-plus sales mark set by Altair. Anyone out there picked up ACII despite skipping the first game?

The original Assassin's Creed made a big debut , but its sequel is outdoing its older brother. Ubisoft sent out word today that, according to internal estimates, Assassin's Creed 2 has sold 1.6 million copies worldwide in the first week. That's 32% more than the first-week sales of the original, which retains the record for fastest selling new intellectual property. But with better reviews, better buzz, and a franchise already built, this new edition is toppling its predecessor and likely making Ubisoft investors happy. It may not hold the ludicrous numbers we saw from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , but the war title's presence probably helped AC2 sales in a roundabout way. With two stellar installments under its belt, Ubisoft has established Assassins Creed as a bona-fide franchise on the same level as Metal Gear and Halo. The downside of this is the inevitable flood of related products that hope to cash-in on the name recognition factor. Ubisoft Won't Be Publishing No More Heroes HD In North America

Ubisoft is the nominal publisher for No More Heroes , but that won't be the case for the upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports. The publisher told G4 that they've decided to pass on a North American release for the game. In a brief statement, a company representative said, "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions." No reason was given for their decision. It's still possible that No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise will make it to North America, but it'll be through a different publisher. One possibility is Capcom, which published Grasshopper's Killer 7 back in 2005. Otherwise, there's the usual suspects such as Atlus.

Grasshopper Manufacture made gamers who missed out on the first No More Heroes (or don't own a Wii) happy with the announcement of an upgraded, visually-tweaked No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation. The original game is going under the high-definition knife and will be released in its native territory in February. There's some bad news, though. Ubisoft confirmed to me it will not be publishing No More Heroe s on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US. "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions," a company spokesperson told me. The company did not provide any reasons why they're passing. But just because Ubisoft is passing on the revamped No More Heroes doesn't mean the HD-enabled versions of Travis Touchdown's first adventure won't show up here, but another publisher will have to step up. Assassin's Creed II Discovery is a bit of an improvement over the previous AC game on DS, Altair's Chronicles . This time around, developer Ubisoft Montreal, does more than just try to cram a poor imitation of its console game onto the DS. Discovery is something of a sidequest to the Assassin's Creed 2 console version (most likely taking place between Sequences 11 and 14), and plays as a 2D side-scroller where you employ stealth and speed to help other assassins, defeat Templars, and protect some explorer named Cristoffo Corombo (Yes, that Columbus Corombo). I didn't think I'd like playing stealth in a 2D game, but Discovery pulls it off well. There's something oddly satisfying about watching the animation of a kill and hearing the "ching" of your sword piercing metal and flesh. I just wish the rest of the fighting in the game was as gratifying; most of the fights are just blocking the enemy's attacks by holding the "R" ...

SCEA, Ubi, Disney, EA Face Voice Tech Patent Suit

A Texas-based technology company has filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Electronic Arts and Disney alleging that the four companies' games violate a voice-recognition tech patent. Bareis Technologies is the holder of a 13 year-old patent that covers automatic speech recognition tech built into CD players "for command and control purposes", and believes games are covered under this.
