If you believe that the original Super Mario Kart is still the best, then you're in luck. The classic racer will be available on Virtual Console next week, along with two other highly-requested games.

GameSpot is reporting that Super Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. and Pilotwings are all on their way to the service, which should be welcome news for fans who have been waiting for the games since launch. They will all be available for 800 Wii Points ($8).

All three games are regarded as classics, with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. having kicked off two of Nintendo's top franchises.

Original Super Nintendo kart racer arrives this Monday; Pilotwings SNES and Super Smash Bros. N64 to follow this holiday season.
Since the day the Wii launched, Nintendo's Virtual Console library of games has offered some of the company's all-time classics in downloadable form. Several of the service's more notable omissions will be addressed this holiday season, as Nintendo told GameSpot a trio of fondly remembered titles will soon arrive on the Wii Shop Channel.

The original Super Mario Kart will give gamers a chance to re-examine the series' roots.
Starting this Monday, the original Super Nintendo version of Super Mario Kart will be available as a Virtual Console title. Originally released in 1992, Super Mario Kart was the first installment in the long-running series, which has recently seen hits in the form of Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii. When it launches, Super Mario Kart will sell for 800 Wii points ($8).

Week-Ending Game Endings - 11.20.09 - Resident Evil 2

I hope this doesn't count as spoilers.

This week, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles came out for the Wii, and I figured a good way of marking the occasion would be to post the ending of one of the games from which it draws, Resident Evil 2.

But, it occurs to me that some peoples' first experience with the story of the game might be through Darkside. So if you're such a person and don't want the RE2 sequence spoiled, then I wouldn't watch these.

On the other hand, if you know it or just don't care, go right ahead. In the case of the former, it might even be fun to compare. First up, we join Claire Redfield...

My Games This Weekend - 11.20.09 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii and WWE

This weekend, it's more New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The wife and I have already stepped into the dark land of World 8, and will soon make Bowser eat his own shell. So far, the game really hasn't been all that difficult, even with two of us getting in the way of one-another. Nonetheless, it's been quite a fun ride, and I can't wait to go back and start exploring for secrets, Star Coins, and such.

I'm also aiming to get WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 for the Wii underway, so keep an eye out for that review soon. In the meantime, I've got the DS version in progress, so hopefully that will show up sometime early next week.

In addition, WWE Survivor Series is this Sunday, and I'll likely have Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, aka "the best game in the series" with me. Funny that in one game, I have to ensure Bowser's survival, while in the other, he's soon going to wish he was never born. Such is life.

So, those are my games this weekend, what are yours?

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Bowser, Wii, DS, WWE Survivor Series

Every week, we get a slew of titles for Nintendo's Wii downloadable service, but it normally comes as a surprise when a game is actually as good as NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits , from Spanish developer Over The Top Games.

[image1] NyxQuest tells the story of Nyx (duh), a goddess from Olympus that befriends Greek mythological icon Icarus. One day, Icarus goes missing, plummeting to the earth, and it's Nyx's mission to come to the rescue, flying, jumping, and pushing her way through twelve interconnected side-scrolling levels.

The first thing that will strike you when you boot up NyxQuest is how gorgeous it looks. Levels are basically huge panoramic combinations of drawings and 3D objects, which are shaded to look like paintings, and both mesh very well together. Most stages are set in desert-like ruined ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Icarus

November Marks the Launch Anniversary of Many a Gaming Platform

A lot of console and handheld anniversaries are being observed this year, such as the SEGA Genesis, the Dreamcast, and the Game Boy. But November seems to be the month to remember, as many a memorable platform celebrate can celebrate its launch going into the Winter holidays.

First and foremost, one cannot overlook the platforms of this very generation. Earlier this week, November 17th marked the third anniversary of the PlayStation 3's North American launch, while the Wii celebrated its own third just yesterday, November 19th. And at the start of next week, November 22nd, the Xbox 360 will also be able to celebrate, except this will be its fourth.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360

DS | Big in Japan Nov. 9-15: J-League Pro Soccer Club

Sega dethrones Winning Eleven with its own footie sim for the PSP; Sony's portable, PS3 nearly tie at top of hardware chart.
Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 (Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 internationally) opened big in Japan for the week of November 2-8, shifting some 217,000 units. One week later, and a new soccer game has worked its way to the top of Media Create's weekly sales chart; this one with a decidedly Japanese bent. For the week of November 9-15, Sega's J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J on the PSP scored big with 84,966 units sold.

If only the cover coach was as excited as the cover text.

Beyond J-League, the mid-November week had a number of charting debuts. Namco Bandai scored with Dragon Ball: Raging Blast, as the PlayStation 3 edition secured third with 57,972. Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers for the Wii, which is due in North America on December 26, ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, The Club, PSP, DS, PS3, Wii

A Good (or at Least Fairly Decent) Look at Sony's Magical Wand

Click for a larger view

While Microsoft has been quite open with Project Natal, showing it to anyone who will look and taking it on talk show after talk show following E3, Sony has been much quieter about their unnamed motion control peripheral. In most cases, there isn't even a very good look at it to be found online.

That is, until now. Sony gave those in attendance at their media and investors conference a better look at the revised form of what I'm calling the Wonder Wand. As you can see in the image above, it has at least six buttons placed upon it, including the standard four PS face buttons, a big central button between them, and the home button below.

Plus, as you can plainly see by the text, it features force feedback, a gyroscope not unlike that in the Wii MotionPlus, an accelerometer, and something called "rendition by light," which may involve that bulb on top that looks like it should be sticking out of the mouth of a clown.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Sony, Microsoft, Project Natal, E3, Wii

REVIEW: Play Any Other Fishing Game but Shimano Xtreme Fishing

What the Game's About
Shimano Xtreme Fishing brings the sport of fishing right to your living room. You can either be an angler the old fashion way or get more extreme by bow fishing or spear fishing. By requiring using the Wii-mote to simulate fishing movements, Shimano Xtreme Fishing feels more like an arcade fishing game than any simulation.

What's Hot
It safe to assume a lot of hopes weren't pinned on this game turning the gaming masses into fish fanatics. For a game about fishing, Shimano is as over the top as they come. There are tons of fish in the water and you can't go without getting something every cast. When you bow or spear fish, the game starts to go off into FPFS (first-person fish shooter) where you attempt to clear the lake of fish like they were radioactive or something. It's a certified guilty pleasure, but that doesn't save the game from the depths it sinks.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Shimano Xtreme Fishing, Wii

Aonuma Says Traditional Flow of Zelda Will Change in Next Wii Game

Yesterday, we learned from franchise director Eiji Aonuma that "some of the internet speculation is right" surrounding the new Legend of Zelda game for Wii. But other than that, he said that further discussion and details surrounding the title would have to wait for the next Electronic Entertainment Expo.

But for IGN, it seems that E3 2010 has come early, for they managed to conduct an interview with Aonuma which reveals a little bit more about the title.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Legend of Zelda, E3, Will Wright, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

So earlier this year, when EA announced that it was bringing out its own fitness program, many (myself included) were skeptical that the studio would be able to create a hit to stand apart from all of those other options. But EA Sports Active was a big success, and many top-rated fitness magazines and trainers endorsed it as a true way to lose weight on the Wii. Well, EA has wasted no time in announcing a follow-up, called EA Sports Active: More Workouts , which improves on the original by adding 35 new routines that target specific areas of the body, revamping the warm-up and cool-down routines, and even throwing in a healthy living cookbook called "The Best Life Diet" by Bob Greene (Oprah's personal trainer).

But the biggest reason to pick up ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, EA Sports Active, Wii, Electronic Arts

Ubisoft Not Publishing No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise (Aka No More Heroes HD)

Grasshopper Manufacture made gamers who missed out on the first No More Heroes (or don't own a Wii) happy with the announcement of an upgraded, visually-tweaked No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation. The original game is going under the high-definition knife and will be released in its native territory in February. There's some bad news, though. Ubisoft confirmed to me it will not be publishing No More Heroe s on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US.
"Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions," a company spokesperson told me.
The company did not provide any reasons why they're passing. But just because Ubisoft is passing on the revamped No More Heroes doesn't mean the HD-enabled versions of Travis Touchdown's first adventure won't show up here, but another publisher will have to step up.
Ubisoft is still behind the franchise, however, as the company will be publishing the sequel on Wii over here.
Wii | Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers Updated Hands-On

Being a crystal bearer sure has its perks as we use our powers to explore the vast world of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
Other than the quick demo at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo , we haven't had a chance to really spend any quality time with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers to see how the game actually plays. The Crystal Bearers takes place 1,000 years after the original FFCC, and this time, the gameplay focuses more on the single-player story-driven experience than on a multiplayer dungeon-crawling experience. We received a preview build and were able to start the game from scratch to get a better idea of what this Wii-exclusive action role-playing game will offer.

Instead of walking over to start a conversation, you can just bring people to you.

The story follows young Layle, a suave and cocky Clavat mercenary who has been hired by the Lilty Kingdom to escort a luxurious passenger ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Wii

Mass We Pray Trailer Actually A Dante's Inferno Ad

Earlier this week, I turned your attention to a trailer for a supposed Wii game called Mass We Pray . In it, players use a cross-shaped Wiimote to perform the Catholic Mass. Well, I was tricked. Fooled. Bamboozled, even.
While I knew the game wasn't real, and said as much about the trailer, I didn't know at the time that it was actually a viral ad for Dante's Inferno . I figured it was some clever web comedians making with the ha-ha jokes. Had I just clicked on the pre-order link on the fake website, all would have been revealed.
I'm joining our nation's Nannies in being angry about this game. While they're mad about the "Bad Nanny" achievement, I'm angry at Dante's Inferno's advertising. I hate being tricked, especially when it means I devote valuable, valuable web space to promoting a game and don't even know I'm doing it.
Wait a minute... I'm still posting about Dante's Inferno right now! Must. End. Post. About. Dante's Inferno ....

News: FFCC: Crystal Bearers here in February

Wii action-adventure finally pinned down. Square Enix will release Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers in Europe on 5th February. The Wii adventure has just launched in Japan and will be available in the US on Boxing Day, bizarrely. Crystal Bearers was revealed at E3 2005 long before the Wii (then the Revolution) had gone on sale. The idea, we presume, was to use the momentum generated by GameCube's excellent Crystal Chronicles from 2004.
