Back to skull. I'm a vocal fan of the LEGO games, but even I was a bit sceptical about a second go-round for Indiana Jones. The first LEGO Indy game was something of a runt compared to the brick-based versions of Star Wars and Batman, and the idea of adding just one more film story - the limp Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - to the existing trilogy hardly suggested a gameplay bonanza. The good news, then, is that Traveller's Tales has come up with a package that renders such concerns null and void. This is an absolutely stuffed disc, easily doubling what was on offer last time, and addressing long-running complaints about the LEGO series to boot. Naysayers who claim LEGO games are just the same thing repackaged are finally proven conclusively wrong, even though every game so far has offered its own tweaks and improvements. Of course, you still explore levels, smashing things, melee-bashing enemies, solving puzzles and collecting LEGO studs for currency. That's what the LEGO games do. ...

News: Microsoft: "It wasn't a million" bans

Reports of modders' demise exaggerated. Microsoft's Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, has denied the recent reports that Microsoft banned one million modded 360s from the online service. "We didnt release the number. I cannot explain to you why people would think it was a million people. It wasnt a million people," Whitten told VentureBeat. "Check the veracity of that claim. It was one news source." That source was InformationWeek, which said two weeks ago that Microsoft banned "as many as one million" consoles that had been modified to play pirate games from Live. Microsoft Responds to Possible Class Action Suit Over XBL Bans

There's still a little fallout burbling over Microsoft's large wave of Xbox Live bans about two weeks ago, and at least one law firm smells the possibility of squeezing money out of it. Abington IP has announced that they're considering filing a class action lawsuit against Microsoft, and are urging those who were recently banned to contact the firm about joining the potential suit. Microsoft, meanwhile, has responded that they can ban pirates and modified consoles as much as they please. "Piracy is illegal and modifying an Xbox 360 is a violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use," a spokesman said to Financial Post ( via Kotaku). "Microsoft is well within its legal rights to ban these users from Xbox Live." Some media reports initially suggested that bans totaled as high as between 600,000 and 1 million consoles, but Microsoft denied the upper level of those numbers. Ubisoft Won't Be Publishing No More Heroes HD In North America

Ubisoft is the nominal publisher for No More Heroes , but that won't be the case for the upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports. The publisher told G4 that they've decided to pass on a North American release for the game. In a brief statement, a company representative said, "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions." No reason was given for their decision. It's still possible that No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise will make it to North America, but it'll be through a different publisher. One possibility is Capcom, which published Grasshopper's Killer 7 back in 2005. Otherwise, there's the usual suspects such as Atlus.

November Marks the Launch Anniversary of Many a Gaming Platform

A lot of console and handheld anniversaries are being observed this year, such as the SEGA Genesis, the Dreamcast, and the Game Boy. But November seems to be the month to remember, as many a memorable platform celebrate can celebrate its launch going into the Winter holidays. First and foremost, one cannot overlook the platforms of this very generation. Earlier this week, November 17th marked the third anniversary of the PlayStation 3's North American launch, while the Wii celebrated its own third just yesterday, November 19th. And at the start of next week, November 22nd, the Xbox 360 will also be able to celebrate, except this will be its fourth.

Koei Announces Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce Release Date

Dynasty Warriors will soon be back, as the release says, "with a vengeance." Koei has announced a firm release date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce, which are due next year. Koei is promising several new elements for the port, including 40 console-exclusive missions, online officer trading and a new playable character. The PS3 version will also feature characters from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 , while the Xbox 360 version features guest appearances from Warriors Orochi 2 . The PSP version was released earlier this year, and included ad-hoc multiplayer as well as tweaks to the existing weapons system. The console versions will be introducing online multiplayer.

Law fim puts out call for gamers tossed from Microsoft's online service in pre-Modern Warfare 2 purges. In the error message displayed by as many as 1 million Xbox 360s reportedly banned from Xbox Live earlier this month , Microsoft told gamers that there was "no recourse" for violating the system's terms of use agreement. The intellectual property law firm Abington IP apparently disagrees, as it is looking for banned Xbox Live members interested in a possible class action lawsuit against Microsoft. There is no recourse for Terms of Service violations…except maybe legal recourse. The firm claims that Microsoft waited until the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to ban systems in order to maximize sales. The firm believes that sales of Modern Warfare 2, the recently released Halo 3: ODST, and overall Xbox Live subscriptions would all have suffered had the ban been instituted earlier. Ubisoft Not Publishing No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise (Aka No More Heroes HD)

Grasshopper Manufacture made gamers who missed out on the first No More Heroes (or don't own a Wii) happy with the announcement of an upgraded, visually-tweaked No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation. The original game is going under the high-definition knife and will be released in its native territory in February. There's some bad news, though. Ubisoft confirmed to me it will not be publishing No More Heroe s on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US. "Ubisoft will not be publishing either of these versions," a company spokesperson told me. The company did not provide any reasons why they're passing. But just because Ubisoft is passing on the revamped No More Heroes doesn't mean the HD-enabled versions of Travis Touchdown's first adventure won't show up here, but another publisher will have to step up. British intelligence agency Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is set to target UK gamers via in-game Xbox Live advertisements. The British intelligence agency, which oversees both internal agency MI5 and external agency MI6, confirmed its plans for a six-week campaign on the platform in such games as Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Assassin…s Creed II. News: Resi 5 to get Gold Edition disc in March

Capcom has announced that the swathe of new downloadable content for Resident Evil 5, to be released early next year, will make its way onto a disc after all. Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition for the PS3 and Xbox 360 - not the PC - will include the original game, two new episodes, new costumes, and eight new playable characters for a new version of Mercenaries Mode called The Mercenaries Reunion. It will be released on 9th March 2010 in North America at a standard retail price of $49.99, and 12th March in Europe. Capcom Announces Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition

Capcom is still planning to release the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition content as downloadable content. However, the newly announced Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will also contain the new content, allowing those who like their physical media to enjoy it as well. Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will contain two new episodes, new costumes, and a Mercenaries mode refresh called "Mercenaries Reunion." The first new episode will be titled "Lost in Nightmares," and will star Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they investigate Umbrella Corporation founder Ozwell E. Spencer's hideaway. For those opting to purchase the content online, Lost in Nightmares and the first costume pack will be available online starting February 17 for the Xbox 360, and February 18 for the PS3. Another costume pack and the second DLC episode will be arriving March 3.

BioWare didn't wait long before augmenting Dragon Age: Origins with downloadable content; it didn't wait at all , in fact. When Dragon Age shipped for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 3, players who picked up new copies of the dark fantasy role-playing game were given free access to The Stone Prisoner (a $15 add-on, otherwise). Xbox 360 | Dark Void film rights bought, game delayed a week

Capcom's jetpack action game pushed back as publisher announces big-screen partnership with Brad Pitt's production company. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li may have taken a beating worthy of Miguel Cotto at the box office, but Capcom isn't letting that derail its latest Hollywood push. Today the publisher announced that it has reached an agreement with Reliance Big Entertainment and Plan B Entertainment--the production company of Brad Pitt--for the film rights to Capcom's upcoming Dark Void. He kind of looks like Brad Pitt. The publisher said the game is being adapted as "a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt." Plan B has produced a number of hit films, including The Departed , Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford , which saw Pitt in the role of the doomed gunslinger. It is also producing the upcoming version of Wanted ...

Supreme Commander 2 Launching March 2 On PC

Square Enix has just announced the release date for Supreme Commander 2 . The sequel to Gas Powered Games' ambitious real-time strategy game will be out at the beginning of March on the PC, and two weeks after that on the Xbox 360. As with Order of War , Square Enix is publishing Supreme Commander 2 in an effort to broaden its appeal. Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto called their relationship with Gas Powered Games a "strategic partnership." "Supreme Commander 2 is a shining example of our strategic partnership with Gas Powered Games," said North American Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto.

Media: Resident Evil 5 Goes for the Gold with New Content

Today, Capcom has officially announced their plans for bringing over the contents of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition to North America. As we predicted, not only will the content be available through downloads, but there will also be a retail version known as "Resident Evil: Gold Edition," which features everything on a $49.99 Blu-ray for PlayStation 3, while Xbox 360 owners get a DVD with a download token. Strangely, however, there is no mention of motion control augmentation for the PS3 version. Perhaps they're simply not ready to go into detail? BioShock 2 Special Edition Detailed And Priced

I have never sprung for a special edition of game in my life, but that streak might come to an end when BioShock 2 hits shelves on Feb. 9, 2010. 2K has revealed details about the special edition, and it’s quite an impressive collection. The special edition includes: 13”x13” premium packaging with special slipcase and box cover art Three posters featuring vintage ads from Rapture A vinyl 180g LP featuring the orchestral score from the original BioShock A CD contaiing the BioShock 2 orchestral score A 164-page 8”x11” hardbound artbook featuring developer commentary All of this, and a copy of the game, will run you $99.99 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, or $89.99 for the PC version. I’m utterly fascinated and enthralled with the BioShock universe, so any chance I can get to devour additional Rapture-y content, I’m there. Am I right, people?
