It's been too long since Croteam dropped a new Serious Sam game. A proper third entry in the "oh my god there are 900 enemies at once" series is in the works, but before moving forward, Croteam went back to the original and came back with Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter , a remake being released on the PC on November 24. It'll also make an appearance through Xbox Live Arcade sometime next month, but a concrete date hasn't been announced.

Worms 2 Armageddon Title Update Today, DLC Next Year

A title update has just gone live for Worms 2 Armageddon on Xbox Live Arcade. Fans can automatically download the patch for free by loading the game while connected to Live.

The update fixes a number of bugs from the original release -- including a particularly nasty one that would erase all save data -- as well as adding a ton of community-requested features and balance tweaks. You can check out the full details of today's patch over at developer Team17's official Facebook page .

The devs also revealed plans to release additional DLC for Worms 2 Armageddon in early 2010. Specifics weren't announced, but you can expect new levels, challenges, modes, and configuration options for custom teams sometime next year.

News: MGS hints at more Shadow Complex

Jobs going on Natal, 343 teams too. Microsoft is seeking talented people to bolster the Natal team at MGS and help "drive the success of Gears of War and Shadow Complex". That's our first glimpse of a future for Chair's triumphant Xbox Live Arcade game. Mind you this isn't surprising given its critical (9/10 on Eurogamer) and commercial success. Even less surprising is news of more Gears of War, a series Epic has long talked of expanding.

XBLA sales plummet as everyone's too busy shelling out for MW2.

We all know how fast Modern Warfare 2 has been pinging off the shelves at a frantic pace, but it seems it's had a dramatic effect on the sales of Xbox Live Arcade games, too.
Interview: Independence Day

Introversion opens on Microsoft, Subversion, Darwinia+ and more. Once The Last of the Bedroom Programmers, the Robin Hood of Independent Forest, the David to the industry's Goliath, the [that's enough metaphor - Ed], Introversion nowadays finds itself beavering away on an Xbox Live Arcade version of Darwinia+. It's quite the transformation for a tiny studio that won the Independent Games Festival's grand prize a few years ago and celebrated by sticking two fingers up to publishers. Following the developer's turn at Eurogamer Expo 2009, we spoke to managing director Mark Morris to get the whole story.
Modern Warfare 2 Release Week Has Major Effect On XBLA Sales

The release of Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 spurred Xbox Live to a record-breaking 2 million concurrent players -- and the attention-grabbing launch affected sales of Xbox Live Arcade games, too. Gamerbytes editor Ryan Langley regularly analyzes Xbox Live Arcade Leaderboard data to help determine how well a game may be selling, and his latest look reveals sales for top-selling XBLA games down significantly. For example, Trials HD's leaderboards, which ...

Nintendo Makes Good On Downloadable Demo Promise, Rolls Out WiiWare Demos

PlayStation Network doesn't require demos for downloadable games like Xbox Live Arcade does, but most games tend to have one, even if it arrives a week or two later. WiiWare, however, remains a complete gamble. It's often difficult to find coverage of most WiiWare games, potentially moving WiiWare games out of impulse-buying territory. I know that's happened to me before. Luckily, that might no longer be an issue, as Nintendo started rolling out WiiWare demos today.
Right now, there are only five WiiWare demos available for a handful of already released games. It's unclear whether demos are going to become part of Nintendo policy going forward, but the amount of interest gamers pay to this suite of demos will probably play a factor.
Here are the five games: Bit.Trip Beat , Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord , NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits , World of Goo and Pokemon Rumble . Nintendo made some good choices, too, as those are all fantastic examples of quality, ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Nintendo, Xbox Live Arcade

Xbox Live Arcade Adds Gyromancer and Diner Dash on Wednesday

Two new games are set for release this Wednesday on the Xbox Live Arcade, continuing the trend of releasing more than a single XBLA game each week. (Remember the days when we only got one, if that?) First up is a game that's more likely to appeal to the casual crowd more than the folks who camped out for Call of Duty last week: Diner Dash , the popular time management sim that originally showed up on PCs back in 2003. The XBLA incarnation of the game features a new look, cooperative and competitive online multiplayer, and leaderboards. Two different control styles will be available, with one being the more traditional point-and-click interface, and the other allowing you to directly control the main character, Flo. Diner Dash will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

The other new title this week is the much-anticipated collaboration from Square Enix and PopCap, Gyromancer . D3 Publisher took PopCap's match-3, Bejeweled ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Xbox Live Arcade, PopCap Games, Microsoft, Call of Duty

Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath And Beyond Hands-On Preview

You don't see many video games try to be funny because humor's not easy. Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard managed to get a few chuckles out of the few that checked it out, but the game wasn't very good, so no one played it. A game has to be a good game , too. For the sequel (it's more like a spin-off), Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath And Beyond , D3 Publisher is only targeting Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network with a more simplistic offering.
I recently had a chance to play Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath And Beyond and tossed my thoughts in a preview over here . I'm not totally convinced about the game yet, but it's showing promise.
Also, it did make me laugh a little.

Media: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack - Launch Trailer

Following the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up on the Wii and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled on Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network, the release of the new-but-oldschool-styled Arcade Attack for the Nintendo DS has been rather low-key. It came out without much fanfare this week, save for the following trailer:

I have to admit, the small snippets of story shown in this trailer already make it look better than the one used in Smash-Up.

Fans of the Turtles may want to grab this as a collector's item of sorts, as it may mark the last game of the Mirage era... that is, unless Ubisoft has something up their sleeve they haven't announced yet.

On a related note, the final story arc of the old TMNT Adventures comic, "The Forever War," is now officially canceled (again). At least we're still getting "Turtles Forever" on November 21st, and you can check out the ...

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Wii, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, Xbox Live Arcade

Read Gilbert and Schafer's offcuts. Pages of cut dialogue from the original Secret of Monkey Island game have been unearthed and published on the internet. The man responsible is Adam Bormann, designer of the Special Edition that flooded our Xbox Live Arcade with nostalgia this summer passed. "One of the things I worked on was the new hint system, which meant a lot of digging through the old original SCUMM source code to figure out how Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and company were tracking the state of different puzzles and whether Guybrush had completed something or not," wrote Bormann on the LucasArts Workshop blog (spotted by Kotaku). Read more... > >

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Monkey Island, Tim Schafer, Xbox Live Arcade, Ron Gilbert, LucasArts

NBA Unrivaled Landing On XBLA On Wednesday

If you enjoy basketball games, but your tastes run more toward NBA Jam than NBA 2K , then you might want to keep an eye on Xbox Live Arcade. Tecmo has announced that NBA Unrivaled will be out this week.

Developed by A.C.R.O.N.Y.M Games, NBA Unrivaled features what Tecmo calls a "contemporary retro design," along with all the team licenses and rosters. And unlike more simulation-oriented experiences, it will feature exaggerated special moves, putting it more in line with the likes of NBA Jam.

NBA Unrivaled is Tecmo's first basketball game in some 17 years, with their last foray onto the hardwood being 1992's Tecmo NBA Basketball . It fills the gap left by NBA Street, which was last seen in early 2007.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, NBA Unrivaled, Tecmo, Xbox Live Arcade, NBA Street

Tecmo Dates NBA Unrivaled for XBLA, PSN

While EA and the NFL are already working on an downloadable arcade take on their sport, the NBA will beat them to the punch this week with the release of NBA Unrivaled, a 5-on-5 arcade basketball game from Tecmo for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.

Developed by A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games, who previously worked on NBA '08 for the PS2, NBA Unrivaled will bring back memories of games like NBA Street and NBA Jam with insane hits, half-court shots, and of course, over-the-top slam dunks. The game features all 30 NBA teams and up-to-date rosters, plus competitive and cooperative multiplayer and unlockable jerseys.

While the title is set for release this week, November 11, the release is for XBLA only. PS3 fans will have to wait for later to unleash their boomshakalakas.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, NBA Unrivaled, Tecmo, Electronic Arts, Xbox Live Arcade, NBA 08

Magic: The Gathering On Its Way To PS3 And PC

PS3 and PC gamers can look forward to their own doses of Magic: The Gathering next year, as Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that Duels of the Planeswalkers will be arriving on both platformers next year. And not to be left out, the Xbox Live Arcade version will also be picking up new content.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is slated to hit the PC next spring, with the PS3 version to arrive in the fall. Previously an XBLA exclusive, it was released on the Xbox 360 last June, where it sold 170,000 copies in five weeks.

Downloadable content for the game recently became available for Xbox 360 owners, with three new decks, new co-op levels and other content being available for 400 Microsoft Points ($5). WotC will be adding two more expansion packs in spring and summer 2010, which will include even more new cards and characters.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Magic: The Gathering, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox Live Arcade

0D Beat Drop Lands on Xbox Live Arcade This Wednesday

This week's addition to Xbox Live Arcade is a rhythm/puzzle game by the name of 0D Beat Drop . It's scheduled to arrive this Wednesday for $10 (800 Microsoft points).

From the looks of things, 0D Beat Drop seems to play like your standard falling gem puzzler. The main exception here is that clearing a pile of gems from the screen in Beat Drop requires you to drop your pieces along with the rhythm of the background music. Up to four players can play competitively or co-operatively, and the game even adapts its gameplay to support custom soundtracks.

Sounds like it has potential, especially for Lumines fans who might be looking for something a little different. Anybody going to check it out later this week?

Squenix/PopCap collaboration soon. PopCap and Square Enix will release PC and Xbox Live Arcade game Gyromancer here on 18th November. It's a Puzzle Quest clone built using the RPG know-how of Square Enix (art, story, levelling) and the puzzle panache of PopCap. Bejeweled holds the game together as puzzle bouts replace traditional combat. Acquired skills and spells tamper directly with the gem-swapping action.
Gyromancer Coming to XBL and PC Nov. 18

PopCap and Square Enix have announced that Gyromancer , the result of their collaboration to make a game combining Bejeweled Twist and the general experience and level-gaining elements of a Final Fantasy , is set for release on Xbox Live Arcade and PC on November 18 ( via Shacknews).
If "a cross between Bejeweled and Final Fantasy" sounds familiar to you, then you've probably heard of or played Puzzle Quest . PopCap and Square Enix don't really seem to be hiding the fact that Gyromancer will be a direct competitor to the popular puzzle/RPG hybrid, though, so it'll be interesting to see if the higher profile names attached to it help Gyromancer catch up to the surprising success of D3 Publisher's franchise.
If you're interested, the game will run you 1200 Microsoft points or $15 dollars.

News: Braid PS3 due out in US next week

European version "TBA shortly thereafter". Hothead Games' PS3 version of Braid will be released in the US on 12th November, the publisher has announced, "with a European version to be announced shortly thereafter" - presumably meaning we'll get it quite quickly. We're expecting a straight port on this one, which is no bad thing given that the Xbox Live Arcade original was thoroughly lovely - a tinkling, painterly platform puzzle game that this week's press release sums up thus: "Explore the human condition and manipulate time." Quite so. Braid's creator, Jonathan Blow, is currently working on a new game called The Witness, in which you shoot monsters in the face in a post-apocalyptic American city. No, wait, sorry, it's about an amorphous, consummate force called Tao and something to do with an uninhabited island.
Rare Sets Sights on Project Natal Shooter

MCV has run an interesting feature which provides an in-depth look at the state of the first-person shooter genre, and mining the depths of the article, one can find what Twycross-based developer Rare has in store for the future.

"It's still a booming business," Rare studio head Mark Betteridge said, adding "you only have to look at the success of the Halo series to see that. And we're obviously very happy about the excitement over Perfect Dark coming back to Xbox Live Arcade."

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, The Mark, Halo, Perfect Dark, Xbox Live Arcade, Project Natal

News: OneBigGame reveals Zoe Mode's Chime

Charity publisher taps Perry, Cecil, more. Pioneering non-profit publisher OneBigGame has revealed Zoe Mode's Chime as the charity-focused label's first game. Available from Xbox Live Arcade this winter, Chime has musical blocks you need to rearrange so they sound clearly individual notes when a vertical line sweeps past, a bit like Lumines. Apparently musical men Moby and Paul Hartnoll have contributed. Admirably, OneBigGame sends 80 per cent of any money made via game sales straight to charity. For publisher founder Martin le Ronde the vision has taken three hard years to materialise. And during that time he has enticed some serious support.
Nintendo to Offer WiiWare Demos Starting This Month

It's rare that you hear Nintendo's WiiWare download service mentioned in the same breath as Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, probably due to the simple reason that the service lacks a way to try out the available titles. While each and every game on XBLA has an available downloadable demo, WiiWare games lack such a feature - or at least they will until this month.

At a recent investor session reported on by IGN, President Satoru Iwata confirmed that a some WiiWare games would have downloadable demos this month, as a test program for more widespread demos. While it wasn't confirmed if this service would remain Japan-only or would find its way to other territories, it's at least good to see that Nintendo is looking at ways to improve WiiWare's currently meager offerings.

Find more top gaming news, videos, and blogs on GamerBlips: Gaming, Nintendo, Microsoft, Xbox Live Arcade, Satoru Iwata

Three Episodes of Wallace & Gromit Releasing on XBLA Wednesday

They might not be following the episodic release structure that the PC versions are, but episodes two , three , and four of Wallace & Gromit are making their way to Xbox Live Arcade this week. The second episode was originally scheduled for release back in early September, but was delayed . All three have been available for months on PC, with the fourth episode being released back in July.

The lag between Xbox Live Arcade and PC release dates unfortunately doesn't mean you'll be getting any sort of discount. Each one costs 800 Microsoft Points ($10) on the Xbox Live Marketplace, whereas you can get each for $9 on PC or $35 for the entire season. It's not a huge discrepancy, but it's something worth noting if you have the option of playing the game on a computer.

Last Three Wallace & Gromit Xbox Live Arcade Episodes Finally Dated

Wallace & Gromit: Fright of the Bumblebees was released this summer on Xbox Live Arcade, but the second episode was yanked from the lineup on the day of release. No reason was given, but maybe it's for the best, as Telltale Games has announced the remaining three episodes -- The Last Resort, Muzzled!, The Bogey Man -- will be released simultaneously through XBLA on November 4th.
The date is no coincidence, either, as Telltalle points out November 4th is the 20th anniversary of the first Wallace & Gromit animated short, A Grand Day Out . Aww, how cute. Congrats, you two!
Each episode will cost 800 Microsoft Points (or $10).
