... According to PlayStation LifeStyle, Activision recently filed a trademark on Drum Hero. Given that this is Activision after all, someone should really file trademarks for Piano Hero, Saxophone Hero, Violin Hero and Timpani Hero first. You know, just in case they start making games based on timpanis. ...

Another trademark, and another game we saw coming a mile away. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Drum Hero hit sometime in 2010. Of course, expect subsequent sequels soon thereafter.

Now, just because they filed a trademark doesn't mean this is a project in development. They could just be moving to protect the "Hero" franchise, pairing that word and its synonyms with all sorts of instruments just to be on the safe side. Unsurprisingly, Activision trademarks 'Drum Hero'

... drum peripherals -- "made of wood [from] Home Depot" -- was the eventual starting point for drum use in Guitar Hero: World Tour.
After all this time, though, it's odd that Activision may be considering a standalone drum game. You have to wonder why, considering that most people who own the drums probably also own a microphone and a guitar peripheral. What could a game called Drum Hero possibly bring to the table that Guitar Hero doesn't already?
