RUMOR - Shigeru’s patent may be related to Zelda?

... This is all speculation based on the patent, but the above images point to a Zelda game. We also see that we might be able to skip ahead in parts of the game, if things get too difficult. Seems just like what Atari did with Alone in the Dark. Finally, we also see that hints may be made available. Please keep an eye on this thread, as more and more details are being uncovered. Thanks to MrBubbles for the heads up! This entry was posted on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 7:25 pm and is filed under ...
Nintendo "Kind Code" Patent Reveals Potential Paradigm Shift in Design [Kind Code]

... and free range, the first real sandbox video game. Imagine being able to play a game with all of the benefits of characters, story and goals, but without having to spend 10 to 20 hours of your life to enjoy doing so. Of course, that's the best case scenario. The worst, is that this turns gaming into an interactive cut-scene, removing all of pleasure of achievement from gaming and instead turning it into a glorified demo. Miyamoto Patents some type of Hint System?
Infendo - Nintendo blog —
... it seems to be focused on helping a player get to the end of a game through a series of onscreen hints. Although, it seems that these hints are part of an add on or put into an outside storage device (SD card maybe?), possibly part of some type of downloadable content. It might be a way of having a players guide displayed on screen, instead of dealing with a paper back book instead, which is interesting. So what is your take on this Infendo, what do you think this is all about?

... appropriate equipment and such. An interesting concept -- definitely one which could help bridge that gap that is continually trying to be filled between passive and interactive entertainment. Another portion describes what sounds similar to a system used in Metroid Prime, wherein after a set amount of time, the game will tell you where to go if you haven't made any progress. A more thorough examination of the patent can be found at Nintendo Everything , while the folks at NeoGAF continue to speculate. One NeoGAFer describes the philosophy of the patent as ...

... because it's for "teh casuals," you don't have to. If you do, that just means you'll be saving a trip to your laptop to check GameFAQs. Furthermore, it might actually be a backdoor for Nintendo to focus on core gamers, since they'd be able to build more challenging (or relatively challenging) game experiences without fear of scaring off consumers who'd be too afraid they'd never be able to finish a game otherwise. That's my take - what do you guys think? [Via Gamasutra and NeoGAF ]

... to start the game from a previous "scene" -- rather like the save system in the new Pikmin remake. All the associated images use a Zelda-like game "Legend of OO" to demonstrate the concepts, but that might just be a context used to help explain the concepts. But if you want to call "OMG NEXT ZELDA CONFIRMED WITH HINT SYSTEM THING," have fun! And if the USPTO image viewer doesn't work for you, check the linked NeoGAF thread for a few images. New Zelda to feature DVD-style chapter skip and video hint system?
Wii Wii —
Short answer: quite probably.
Clever internetters with too much time on their hands have uncovered a patent filed by Nintendo, which suggests the next Zelda game will feature an elaborate hint system involving players being able to view videos uploaded by other gamers, offering solutions to puzzles they’re stuck on.
Equally interesting is a new DVD-style chapter system, which will apparently allow players to replay certain sections of the game, and also offer the possibility for players to skip a section they’re stuck on, but only ...
Rumor: Patent hints at casual Zelda title
Joystiq —
... you might want to turn your attention to a patent recently filed by one Shigeru Miyamoto for a "computer-readable storage medium." Sounds thrilling, right? However, the "medium" in question isn't what has had speculators buzzing for the past 24 hours -- the game which is referenced in the patent as an example for how the medium will be implemented is mysteriously titled Legend of OO. We wouldn't blame you for jumping to pointy-eared, Hylian conclusions. NeoGAF's and CVG's analysis of the uber-verbose patent ultimately points to a handful ...
