EA Grand Slam developer: MotionPlus is too sensitive
Joystiq —
EA looks likely to be the first third party to ship games that support the Wii MotionPlus device with Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods 10. The company may even beat Nintendo itself, unless Nintendo decides to announce a release date for Wii Sports Resort, and then ship it, before June. So, presumably, someone working on Grand Slam Tennis has had enough time with the attachment to know what's up. Thomas Singleton, producer for Grand Slam, said that the device is actually a little ...
Read my Lips: Wireless mic for Rock Band 2
TechRadar: Gaming news —
The home band experience just got (slightly) more sophisticated, with Microsoft's announcement today that Activision's Guitar Hero Metallica and MTV's Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360 will be among the first music titles to support the new Lips wireless microphone. Lips is the karaoke game from Xbox and iNiS that includes two wireless motion-sensitive Microsoft microphones and built-in LED lights that 'pulse to the rhythm of your performance'. The Microsoft microphones will work first with Guitar Hero Metallica, and then a title update this summer will also activate compatibility with Rock Band 2. Wireless ...
EA: Wii MotionPlus So Accurate It Can Be *Too* Accurate [Wii]
Kotaku —
... one-to-one control movement of your arm motion and then mapping it directly to that one-to-one movement of your character on screen. At times it's overly responsive. It had so much fidelity that at times we have limited that fidelity to make it a compelling experience and giving you full total control. Much rather have a tech that's too accurate, and can be toned down be developers, than a tech that's not accurate enough and can't be fixed. EA: Wii Motion Plus Is Almost Too Good
GayGamer.net —
... felt the full power of Wii Motion Plus. It's good to know that developers have a little wiggle room and can tweak the controls to get them into a sweet spot.
There's still no official release date for Wii Motion Plus (and Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort), but EA isn't waiting. Their first two titles to take advantage of the device - Singleton's Tennis and a Tiger Woods Golf title - will both be out in June.

Wii MotionPlus not for the anxious or caffeine addicted
That VideoGame Blog —
... In an interview with TechRadar, Singleton says Nintendo’s new peripheral can be overly responsive at times: “It had so much fidelity that at times we have limited that fidelity to make it a compelling experience and giving you full total control.” More control is obviously better than less, but it looks like it’ll be up to developers to effectively modulate the device’s sensitivity. After all, we don’t want our shaky, caffeine-addled hands compromising our precious topspin. ...
EA says Wii MotionPlus has too much Plus
Destructoid —
... It seems that one-to-one controls don't always make for the best gaming experiences. In talking with TechRader, Grand Slam Tennis producer Thomas Singleton said the dev team had to scale back the responsiveness of the controls in order to make the game fun. "At times it's overly responsive. It had so much fidelity that at times we have limited that fidelity to make it a compelling experience and giving you full total control," Singleton said. ...

Wii rumoured to be costing 45% less to make
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Nintendo has managed to cut the manufacturing costs on its already cheap Nintendo Wii by 45 per cent according to a Credit Suisse analyst. Koya Tabata tells the Financial Times that Nintendo has nearly managed to halve what it manages to produce its Wii for, which would obviously have a huge impact on Nintendo's bottom line. More profitable This is especially impressive bearing in mind that, of the three consoles in this generation of games machines, the Wii is apparently the only one that was being produced for a profit at launch any way. Indeed Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are both loss leaders for the brands, with ...
Nintendo GameCube as popular as the Wii
TechRadar: Gaming news —
A recent study of 17,000 gamers has shown that the Nintendo Wii is as commonly used as its less-popular predecessor, the GameCube. Although the study consisted of US gamers, it showed that the average session time in a month for the Wii was 58 minutes, where the GameCube, which was released in 2001, still gets 65 minutes of loving. However, the Wii had a higher amount of days being brought out into the light, with an average of 5 days per month compared to 4.5 for the GameCube. The study also threw up some other interesting statistics, namely that the PlayStation 2 is still going great guns as the most popular console (getting 71 mins of usage per session) and ...
Facebook and PS3 near in-game tie-in
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Word is emanating from the MI6 Marketing Summit that Facebook and Sony are working on a tie-in that would allow you to access Facebook functionality within a game. According to Joystiq, a panelist asked John Davidson from Sony whether there would ever be a time when someone could do something on a PS3 game and then could 'spit it out to Facebook'. Davidson replied that such an idea is already in the works and is "critical not just for marketing but for the types of games we're trying to develop. That day is coming quicker than some may think." How social is social networking? This doesn't necessarily mean that he's referring to Facebook and ...
