Iwata: Piracy is worse in Europe than North America
GoNintendo — ... Europe than in U.S., especially in specific European nations where piracy regulation is restricted by the law. Thus we should assume that Europe is seeing a larger impact than U.S. - Satoru Iwata I wonder why the situation is different here in the states. I know there is a lot of piracy going on here, but it doesn’t seem to be talked about as much. Perhaps the truth threat isn’t realized because piracy is so secretive here! Link

Miyamoto talks about Zelda Developement
Infendo - Nintendo blog — ... controls of the new game.“On a more tangible note, we are utilizing Wii Motion Plus. What has been disclosed so far is that we are finding the most efficient way to utilize Wii MotionPlus to realize the realistic and actual feeling of fighting with the sword. As for targeting, we are utilizing the pointing system of Wii Remote on the previous title. This time we are planning a more convenient and comfortable pointing system.” Exciting stuff, more can be found at the link below. [Via Share Holder Meeting at Nintendo ]

Iwata discusses Wii/DS online connection rates in Japan, doesn’t expect retail to be replaced by digital distribution for another 20 years
GoNintendo — ... more slowly. - Satoru Iwata I’d have to say that that’s a pretty low connection rate for the amount of install base. I’m willing to bet that the 360 sees a much, much higher number. I just don’t think Nintendo’s online setup is very compelling right now. Even with the elements that are interesting, they are so hidden from the average consumer that they don’t even know to go online and hunt them down. Link

Iwata discusses the process of convincing DS owners to go online
GoNintendo — ... they now understand the value of being connected. So this is the process that I imagine (for spreading Internet connection on our platforms.) - Satoru Iwata That seems like a good solution for DS owners, but what is Nintendo supposed to do with the Wii? You don’t lug your console around to various locations. Perhaps they could bombard the DS user with Wii online messages when they take their DS to one of these online locations. Link

Miyamoto discusses Spirit Tracks development, and details how it helps in creating Zelda Wii
GoNintendo — ... important among us. We have assembled one of the most creative team for the recent Zelda for DS, and we want to be as creative as possible for upcoming Wii Zelda. - Shigeru Miyamoto I know that I can’t wait for Spirit Tracks, especially once I heard that Miyamoto and the team are going to make this one a bit tougher, and really show new gamers what the Zelda series is all about. Let’s hope it turns out to be a winner! Link

Miyamoto’s exact statement on MotionPlus/pointer use in Zelda Wii
GoNintendo — ... fighting with the sword. As for targeting, we are utilizing the pointing system of Wii Remote on the previous title. This time we are planning a more convenient and comfortable pointing system. - Shigeru Miyamoto So it sounds like the same pointing system is being used, but it’s being tweaked this time around to make it a bit easier to use. I’m not sure how you get easier than point-and-shoot, but I’m game to find out! Link

Iwata/Miyamoto discuss Vitality Sensor, are planning to focus on it next year
GoNintendo — ... gadget, and am planning to put it as one of the next year’s main topics. ————————– I have no doubt that the Vitality Sensor is going to play into Wii Fit somehow, but I’m hoping there will be other uses from Nintendo, as well as third parties. The balance board is still going strong, and I would like to see Nintendo’s next peripheral get the same treatment. Link

Nintendo on HD and Upscaling in the Future
Kombo.com — [image] Nintendo discussed at a corporate briefing last week their views on high definition graphics and development costs for the future. While accepting that HD is becoming a standard, Nintendo acknowledged the strain it is putting on development. This along with other subjects were discussed at their semi-annual financial results briefing on October 30th. The briefing transcript was originally only available online in Japanese until Nintendo's full translation became available today. Past partial translations from places like the NeoGAF forums gleamed small details on ...

Siliconera — ... and a new Zelda game what else is the luminary game designer working on?  Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, says Shigeru Miyamoto “left significant hints…” about his upcoming projects during their investors Q&A session . Oh, well then let’s take a look at what Miyamoto said.  I strictly refrain from commenting on our future development. As for Nintendo DSi LL we have announced yesterday, we have found that a fair amount of DS owners are playing IN their home. Thus one of our ideas is an "in-house DS game play". Another idea is what I have been calling as a public space ...

Kotaku — ... short, in 20 years or so I might say it will have probably changed. But in 5 years or so, I do not totally agree with opinions that no one will purchase titles at retailers by then." Habits of life, Iwata pointed out, don't change such radically and quickly. "Especially for the expanded audience of various people," he added, "to whom we are and will be trying to appeal, I believe their habits will change more slowly." Twenty years? In Japan, the online ratio for the Wii is 30%, while the DS is at 20%. "It had increased with the measures like Nintendo Zone with McDonald's to lower the hurdle for connection," said Iwata, "but has not reached the 30% mark."
