Iwata: Piracy is worse in Europe than North America
GoNintendo —
... Europe than in U.S., especially in specific European nations where piracy regulation is restricted by the law. Thus we should assume that Europe is seeing a larger impact than U.S. - Satoru Iwata
I wonder why the situation is different here in the states. I know there is a lot of piracy going on here, but it doesn’t seem to be talked about as much. Perhaps the truth threat isn’t realized because piracy is so secretive here!

... controls of the new game.“On a more tangible note, we are utilizing Wii Motion Plus. What has been disclosed so far is that we are finding the most efficient way to utilize Wii MotionPlus to realize the realistic and actual feeling of fighting with the sword. As for targeting, we are utilizing the pointing system of Wii Remote on the previous title. This time we are planning a more convenient and comfortable pointing system.” Exciting stuff, more can be found at the link below. [Via Share Holder Meeting at Nintendo ]
Iwata discusses Wii/DS online connection rates in Japan, doesn’t expect retail to be replaced by digital distribution for another 20 years
GoNintendo —
... more slowly. - Satoru Iwata
I’d have to say that that’s a pretty low connection rate for the amount of install base. I’m willing to bet that the 360 sees a much, much higher number. I just don’t think Nintendo’s online setup is very compelling right now. Even with the elements that are interesting, they are so hidden from the average consumer that they don’t even know to go online and hunt them down.

Iwata discusses the process of convincing DS owners to go online

... they now understand the value of being connected. So this is the process that I imagine (for spreading Internet connection on our platforms.) - Satoru Iwata
That seems like a good solution for DS owners, but what is Nintendo supposed to do with the Wii? You don’t lug your console around to various locations. Perhaps they could bombard the DS user with Wii online messages when they take their DS to one of these online locations.

... important among us. We have assembled one of the most creative team for the recent Zelda for DS, and we want to be as creative as possible for upcoming Wii Zelda. - Shigeru Miyamoto
I know that I can’t wait for Spirit Tracks, especially once I heard that Miyamoto and the team are going to make this one a bit tougher, and really show new gamers what the Zelda series is all about. Let’s hope it turns out to be a winner!

So it sounds like the same pointing system is being used, but it’s being tweaked this time around to make it a bit easier to use. I’m not sure how you get easier than point-and-shoot, but I’m game to find out!

Iwata/Miyamoto discuss Vitality Sensor, are planning to focus on it next year

... gadget, and am planning to put it as one of the next year’s main topics.
————————–
I have no doubt that the Vitality Sensor is going to play into Wii Fit somehow, but I’m hoping there will be other uses from Nintendo, as well as third parties. The balance board is still going strong, and I would like to see Nintendo’s next peripheral get the same treatment.

... and a new Zelda game what else is the luminary game designer working on? Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, says Shigeru Miyamoto “left significant hints…” about his upcoming projects during their investors Q&A session . Oh, well then let’s take a look at what Miyamoto said. I strictly refrain from commenting on our future development. As for Nintendo DSi LL we have announced yesterday, we have found that a fair amount of DS owners are playing IN their home. Thus one of our ideas is an "in-house DS game play". Another idea is what I have been calling as a public space ...

"It had increased with the measures like Nintendo Zone with McDonald's to lower the hurdle for connection," said Iwata, "but has not reached the 30% mark."
