Ads Coming To Xbox 360 Dashboard? [Xbox 360]
Kotaku — Oh dear. Sean Alexander, director at Microsoft's Advertising Business Group, has strongly suggested that you could soon be seeing advertisements every time you fire up your 360 dashboard. Apparently, Microsoft "plans to bring IAB specifications for rich media technologies, including Silverlight, to Xbox Live within the year". With Silverlight being Microsoft's version of/competitor to Flash, MediaPost say "Silverlight-powered media on Xbox will have the same appearance as ads seen on a Web browser". Since the goal is for advertising companies to launch the same campaign across multiple platforms - desktop, TV, mobile phone and Surface (Microsoft's touch-screen table) - ...

Xbox LIVE to Have Browser-like Ads
Kombo.com — [image] You'll have to forgive me, I've been busy cleaning vomit off of my desk for the last five minutes. Ads are coming to Xbox LIVE, courtesy of that Silverlight software. As MediaPost has it, Sean Alexander, Director of Microsoft's Advertising Business Group, said that "Silverlight-powered media on Xbox will have the same appearance as ads seen on a web browser..." So users that pay for the service will still be treated to ads on a daily basis. Your thoughts? Oh, on the plus side, according to the article, "..movie trailers are available in a high-definition (HD) format, but Silverlight will deliver 1080p HD and 5.1 surround sound without discs directly into the Xbox..." ...

Non-game advertising coming to 360’s dashboard?
That VideoGame Blog — If there’s one thing the gaming community hates it’s real world advertising creeping into their game world space without any relation to the game their playing. Check out Bionic Commando for a prime example of this in action (the world’s a crumbling mess but Nvidia and Pepsi banners remain untouched). Now the icy fingers of corporate advertising could not only appear during your game, it could also appear on your dashboard. If you’re a 360 owner that is. Speaking to MediaPost Sean Alexander, director at Microsoft’s Advertising Business Group, discussed the possibility of displaying paid advertisements on the 360 ...

Microsoft Offering Silverlight Support For Xbox Live Advertising
G4 TV - TheFeed — If you have ever said to yourself, “I wish there were more dynamic and technologically impressive advertisements being shared between my Xbox 360 and other devices,” then you’ll be pleased to know that Microsoft has been thinking the very same thing. MediaPost News reports that Microsoft will soon be adding Xbox Live ad support for its Silverlight technology, which will give advertisers the ability to create more graphics-intensive campaigns that can then be distributed across multiple Silverlight-supported devices like mobile phones and PCs.  Silverlight will also increase the media streaming capabilities on the 360, including ...

The arrival of Silverlight to the Xbox 360 aims to boost campaigns on Xbox Live by turning ads into interactive and interconnected experiences. Media Post has new info on the imminent arrival of Microsoft Silverlight to the ...

Ads Coming to Xbox Live
The Escapist : Latest News — Microsoft plans to bring interactive ads to Xbox Live within the year but Major Nelson says users don't need to worry about a "huge influx of ads" cluttering up the dashboard. Microsoft revealed its plan to bring Silverlight -based ads to the Xbox Live service yesterday, part of an effort to enable advertisers to create campaigns across four different platforms - television, mobile phones, desktops and Surface - without having to "re-purpose" for each one. "Silverlight-powered media on Xbox will have the same appearance as ads seen on a Web browser," according to a MediaPost report. "Think technology that competes with Flash , only supported by 6 ...

SIlverlight Major Nelson Dont Worry About Silverlight Ads Microsoft have recently announced that they are bringing Silverlight advertisements to the Xbox 360. In an attempt to quell any fears people have about this development, Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, has put a post up on his blog to reassure people that this will not lead to a massive increase in the number of advertisements people see on the dashboard. Invasion of the ads: commercials come to Xbox 360s
Ars Technica - Opposable Thumbs — Xbox Live users may have noticed some new windows on their Xbox Live Dashboards recently, promoting various services and/or media programs. Despite the fact that they look like official Microsoft material at first glance, they're commercials that have been mixed into our consoles, camouflaged amongst the promos for genuine content. The ads are interspersed throughout the Getting Started and Inside Xbox channels on the Dashboard, mixed in between windows for official Xbox Live material. At times, they appear as static images, much like other promos on the Dashboard, though some of the advertisements feature video and sound that automatically play when they are highlighted. The disconcerting ...
