The PlayStation Store is Closing [Sony]
Kotaku —
... The PlayStation Store was a slick retail outlet and a great place to kill time waiting for movies or for your friends to finish shopping elsewhere. San Francisco Playstation Store Closing This Summer

... that Sony is going to abandon their many Sony Style stores around the country, so far they're only closing their retail presence at the Metreon. The Playstation Store, the only such store in North America, often hosted big launch parties for games and consoles, so we'll have to see if someplace else emerges as the de facto Sony launch location. I'm also curious if they get their security deposit back after filling all the nail holes in the walls with toothpaste.

The Playstation Store opened in 1999, while Sony sold off its interest in the Metreon shopping centre in 2006 to the Westfield Group and Forest City Enterprises. The closure is said to have no effect on Sony's numerous Sony Style shops across the US and other countries. Source: Gamespot
