Kotaku —
... Games Market" at the London Games Conference. As trendy topics go, this one set out to answer when digital downloads might overtake retail sales of boxed games. Analyst Nick Parker said that might happen around 2014. He also said, speculatively of course - because that is what analysts do - that it wouldn't surprise him to see "one new entrant" to the console game - namely, Apple, Inc. - produce a dedicated console. Apple gamers such as myself shrugged and/or snorted. Microsoft Dismisses 'Cloud Gaming', Analyst Predicts Apple Console [TechRadar] ...
Muscle sensors: next big thing in game control?
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Following the successful press launch of its Project Natal motion control tech at E3 this year, Microsoft is now developing a system of muscle sensing control, with a new Guitar Hero demo showing off what the tech might be capable of. Microsoft's new control tech lets you play Guitar Hero without using any kind of controller at all, merely attaching some muscle sensors to your arm to register when you move each one of your four fingers on your fret-hand. Welcome, cyborg Procrastineering notes that one of their favorite projects this year "was a muscle sensing system that (among other things) allows you to play Guitar Hero ...

Microsoft Waves Off Threat From OnLive and Gaikai
The Escapist : Latest News —
... don't want to damage my street cred by getting in line with a Microsoft Man, but I have a hard time disagreeing with him. The server and client technology may be available but without a reliable infrastructure to support it, it doesn't mean much. Broadband access continues to grow but is still far from universal, while speeds and reliability are all over the map. I think OnLive is a fantastic idea; I also think, like Johnson, that it's a little too early at this point. Source: TechRadar
Digital distribution and the future of game delivery

... We all know that online, digital transmission will become a primary means of game delivery. But, the question at this week’s London Games Conference was, when will it happen? New 8x zoom-lens add-on for Nintendo DSi
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Peripheral maker Nyko is releasing a this HUGE add-on lens to bump up the DSi's 0.3 megapixel camera. The humungous 8x zoom lens is (thankfully) attached to a detachable Nyko Zoom Case. Hilarious, nonsense TechRadar supposes you could throw this hilarious device in your manbag for those odd occasions when you really need to take close-up and grainy pictures of flowers with your games console. Nyko's latest will only set you back a mere $25. It is sure to make you the envy of all your DSi-toting mates. Or maybe not. Whatever, it's so bizarre, we still want one... ...
Nintendo profits have halved
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Nintendo's profits have fallen for the first time in years, with interim net profit cut by more than half to to ¥69.49 billion (about £465million), from ¥144.83 billion this time last year. There are a number of ways to look at (or spin) this. On the one hand, a company posting nearly half a billion pounds worth of profit is clearly still doing pretty well. On the other hand, it is still a mighty drop in the profit over the space of one year. And clearly the lack of AAA-titles for Wii has far from helped. Sales forecasts slashed Nintendo sold 5.75 million Wii consoles from April to September, down 43 per cent on 2008 and slashed its sales ...
In-depth: Interview: Guitar Hero CEO, Dan Rosensweig
TechRadar: Gaming news —
Can you give us a potted history of the Guitar Hero franchise? And tell us why you decided to take the job of CEO of Guitar Hero? Well the history of Guitar Hero is pretty spectacular. Really, I don't know of another franchise that has captured the imagination of the world so quickly and so powerfully and so positively in such a short period of time. I think Guitar Hero started back in 1996 when Kai and Charles [Huang, GH founders], who have always been entrepreneurs, were selling dance mats for Dance Dance Revolution and they stumbled upon the concept of the guitar controller. They then licensed the software and ...
