Kotaku —
... free." Bowling ends it with perhaps the most attractive feature of IWNET, which uses Valve's Anti Cheat. "The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don't have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters," Bowling writes. "Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it." We've reached out to Activision and Infinity Ward for additional comment on the change. Infinity Ward responds to Modern Warfare 2 dedicated server petition
Joystiq —
... "We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners," West explained. The duo had received countless complaints from PC Modern Warfare players who were unable to find a match online that wasn't riddled with cheaters, "insular" clans and enormous skill disparities -- problems they hope IWNet will eliminate. When asked why both matchmaking and dedicated servers couldn't both exist, West explained that this practice would "bifurcate the community." ...
Infinity Ward Responds to Modern Warfare 2 Controversy
The Escapist : Latest News —
... . Community Manager Robert "Fourzerotwo" Bowling, the same person who broke the news, made a post to his blog outlining the company's plans in an attempt to dispel the "questions, assumptions, and speculation" that have swarmed up around the title since the announcement. First off, outlined Bowling, he didn't think this was indicative of Infinity Ward merely being lazy when it came to PC development - in actuality, he said, it was the opposite: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is actually the biggest investment Infinity Ward has ever made into the PC version of our games. ...
IW says lack of servers best for the majority of gamers

... complaints into loud explosions then you may have missed the fact that Modern Warfare 2 on the PC will not have any dedicated servers. It’s an issue to many of the more hardcore online gamers because it will mean that multiplayer will function like it does on the consoles and not allow for modding or private clan maps. Well, those people aren’t the majority of PC gamers according to Infinity Ward, and the majority is who they want to appeal to.

A post to Robert Bowling's Blog has further follow-up on the uproar over absence of a dedicated server for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . He lists several areas they feel will benefit from their new approach: Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay, Playlists and Private Matches, Party System and Friendslist, and Cheat / Hack Free Games. On that last topic, he seems to believe IWnet will eliminate aim-bots and such: "The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don’t have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying ...

Modern Warfare 2 Server Response
Rock, Paper, Shotgun —
... There’s a more detailed response over on Robert Bowling’s blog, which makes for a clearer response. I’m a little dubious about the anti-cheating claim, however, since dedicated server admins have gone a long way to self-policing the community, and I feel like IW’s claim that they’ll be able to deal with it might be a little bold. ...

Just Why Do PC Gamers Hate Modern Warfare 2's New Matchmaking System?
1UP RSS feed —
... Community Manager Robert Bowling offered up a list of reasons why gamers should be happy with the move to IWNet -- most notably, fewer cheaters, a party system, and matchmaking. Sounds pretty good, right? And although West's joke that he told GI -- "We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game" -- may have peeved off some, there remains something about IWNet that has hardcore PC gamers pissed off. Something that they claim is more than just the idea of change.

Gaming Daily - a pc gaming blog —
... recent explosion of “casual gaming” (that oh-so-misused phrase that has been hijacked and mutated by the Wii) has seen the focus of the industry being placed more and more on consoles, with our glorious platform being somewhat neglected in the face of rising profits elsewhere. As a result, developers are lobotomising their releases in order to accommodate our console cousins, with the recent developments in Modern Warfare 2 being the latest incarnation. Robert Bowling makes a fairly convincing argument as to the benefits the matchmaking system will bring, but paints a rather ...
Modern Warfare 2 PC Already Has Hacks, Ahead of Steam Version Release
Evil Avatar - News Items —
... , there's some unsettling news regarding the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. One of the bullet points listed as a reason for IW.net being great was that it would provide "Cheat/Hack Proof Games," but this hacking site has already released a handful of hacks, including an aimbot. These hacks have come out so fast, that the Steam version is still not available. They're actually charging for them (which I'm pretty sure is illegal) so we can't verify the authenticity but there's a video of this in action after the break. ...
