Online retailers boycotting Modern Warfare 2
Destructoid —
... The bad press for the biggest game of the year just keeps stacking up. The latest development in the bitter Modern Warfare 2 PC debacle has seen a number of online retailers stand up in opposition of Infinity Ward's game, refusing to sell the much-hyped FPS. It's not because of dedicated servers, though. It's because Steam is a Trojan horse! ...

Digi Retailers Drop Modern Warfare 2
Rock, Paper, Shotgun —
The Big K has news that the major digital download services are boycotting troubled enormo-shooter Modern Warfare 2 because of the inclusion of Valve’s Steamworks. Apparently Direct2Drive were first out with the news, saying they had “told publishers that they’d stop selling games bundled in such a manner until Valve “decoupled its retail marketplace” from Steam’s other services.”
GamersGate and Impulse will also be boycotting the title for the same reason. The implications of this aren’t clear. Does it ...
Digital distribution retailers not selling Modern Warfare 2
Oklahoma City PC Examiner —
... a little upset. Direct2Drive directly competes with Valve for the digital sale of games hence the problem. D2D told Kotaku that, "We don't believe games should force the user to install a Trojan Horse."Before you freak out and say that D2D just called Steam a Trojan virus, keep in mind there's a greater literary reference behind that. I'd guess he just means you're getting something hidden inside the game. Other digital distribution retailers aren't selling the game either. ...

... It looks like other download sites have decided to drawn a line in the sand over the decision by Infinity Ward and Activision to incorporate Steamworks into the PC port of Modern Warfare 2. Direct2Drive has already stated it won't sell the upcoming shooter because it intergrates the Steam features into the game. Now Voodoo Extreme reports that Stardock's Impulse won't sell the game either for the same reasons. Furthermore Kotaku reports that GamersGate has confirmed they won't make Modern Warfare 2 available for ...

Online retailers say ‘no thanks’ to Modern Warfare 2

... Direct2Drive has told Kotaku that they will not be offering the game through digital means because they “don’t believe games should force the user to install a Trojan Horse,” that being Steam’s marketplace. The digital distributor says that after evaluating some Steamworks titles earlier this year, they decided not to sell them until Valve has “decoupled its retail marketplace” from Steam’s other services. ...
Digital Distribution hits it's first speed bumps
Gaming Nexus —
... Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 on their services because it includes a mandatory install of Steam for things like DRM and saved game management. This grants Steam a de facto monopoly on selling Modern Warfare 2 digitally on the PC. This will be a bit trickier to navigate as Valve has so tightly woven their Steamworks tools set with their online service and there's no way anyone is going to help their competitor sell more of their product. I don't see this really hurting sales of the game that much but it has to be ...
