Project Cube (working title) was another of the Xbox Live Arcade titles announced by Microsoft last night in their press conference in Japan, and if you hit the jump and watch the new trailer for the title, you'll see that there's a lot going on. Makes my brain hurt a little bit, actually. All we know about Project Cube so far is that it supports versus and co-op multiplayer modes and can accomodate up to eight. Square's second surprise announcement for the Microsoft Preview Event was the title, tentatively titled Project CUBE -- a twin stick shooter revolving around... well we're not quite sure.
Going by the video, it appears that you must absorb enemy fire and then throw it right back at them, all with a very minimalist style. Certainly does not look like anything else Square Enix has published lately, that's for sure.

Square has revealed its new Xbox Live Arcade game, and it's not an RPG, but, in true XBLA fashion, a dual analog stick shooter. It appears that the new Western-friendly Square-Enix is here in full force, as the house that once was known exclusively for its mega-JRPGs full of melodramatic plots and ten minute super move animations is no longer just that. Project Cube [working title] was one of the several titles announced a month ago along with 0 Day Attack On Earth and several Taito titles, but this was the strangest of the bunch. At E3 there was a single demo kiosk on the show floor, and I got the chance to play it.

Looks like the Xbox Live Arcade game has a new name. Square Enix trademarked Death By Cube in Europe, which sounds like it’s going to be used for Project Cube .
