Check out the proof of concept video here: Surfacescapes Demo Walkthrough from Visual Story TAs on Vimeo. I used to play a bit of D&D (before moving on to Call of Cthulhu), and I have mixed feelings about whether this is a good idea or not. On the one hand, I could see that integrating the rule-set ...

Dungeons & Dragons On Microsoft Surface Is For Wealthy DMs Only [Clips]
Kotaku — Microsoft's multi-touch Surface table may not seem like an efficient use of one's cash, but if this Dungeons & Dragons demo from the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University moves beyond "proof of concept" we'll start considering a purchase. As clearly noted in the below video, this is a work in progress tech demo from a sextet of CMU students that touches on some of the more superficial, but supercool, portions of running a D&D; campaign on one of the world's more expensive monitors. (And, for the record, one of those students is the creator of the previously Kotaku featured The Science of the Mushroom Kingdom, so nerd ...

Surfacescapes: D&D On Microsoft Surface
Rock, Paper, Shotgun — Not strictly PC gaming, but it’s nevertheless fascinating. It shows Carnegie Mellon’s proof of concept application for running a D&D game on Microsoft Surface and, well, that map is about the most alluring piece of nerd-kit I have ever seen. I mean, I love maps at the worst of times, but that is simple too much. What’s even more interesting about it is the way that in terms of interaction, it hybridises boardgame conceits – maps, dice, and physical surfaces – with videogame processes – having menus and automated computation. Pen and paper games become “screen ‘n’ finger” games? ...

I'm not a Dungeons & Dragons guy at all, but this is just neat as f**k. The above video goes through a walkthrough of what SurfaceScapes has developed so far. If videogames are making the transition away from handheld controllers, ...

Microsoft Surface table used as an expensive table top gaming tool
Gaming Nexus — by: John Yan NEWS - There's a few on the staff that do table top gaming such as Dungeons & Dragons so I'm wondering what their thoughts would be on this little demonstration. Here's a video of a group of folks creating a D&D experience using Microsoft's Surface table. It looks pretty cool for being a work in progress and maybe a glimpse into the future of what we can expect in terms of table top gaming. ...

Unveiling my inner geek: Microsoft Surface meets Dungeons and Dragons
Games Brief — It’s time to unveil my inner geek. I saw this video and was immediately entranced. I’ve been a pen and paper gamer for years, but haven’t a chance recently. And the strides taken, particularly by Bioware/Black Isle, have made the computer experience as good, if not better. But if we can find a way to use a tabletop to do the annoying calculations and record keeping while still keeping the improvisation, imagination and free-flowing experience that marks out a perfect roleplaying session, sign me up. And, above all, this will finally make one of my favourite games of all time a joy to play. Steve Jackson, please can we ...
